imaginatively laid out, interesting thematic structure to the displays, and some exceptional and eclectic content. particularly good audio-visual elements, and a vg view from the roof.

The new MAS (short for Museum Aan de Stroom; easily translatable to Museum At the Stream) houses the collections - or at least part of the collections - of three older museums in the wonderful, historic and elegant city of Antwerp, Belgium. And though these collections are definitely worth a visit it is the building in which the MAS resides that should be the real purpose of your visit. And - if you're traveling on a small budget - here comes the good news: a visit to the MAS building is absolutely free! Just walk up the small peninsula that was put in this old dock near the old town, enter the building (the entrance is on the east side), walk strait through the hall, take a right and take the first of many escalators to the next floor. On each floor the escalator is to the right in front of you. Because of this you slowly spiral upward floor by floor. You would expect to encounter an outside wall somewhere but, and that is the intriguing beauty of the MAS, on each floor on the side where the escalator is situated, you have a panoramic view. This is achieved by rotating each floor 90 degrees clockwise to the floor directly below. A rather simple - but still brilliant - concept that on the outside creates a vey semi-transparent impression. The design -award winning - is by the Dutch bureau Neutelings-Riedijk Architects. Worth mentioning are the windows. Or are they actually windows? The architects thought up enormous curved glass panes that give the impression of big transparent lace curtains. Worth a picture! When you reach the top floor, you can still take a staircase to the panorama roof for a great view over the city, the harbor and the river Scheld. To see the collections, simply purchase a ticket (a wristband actually) to gain access to the museum exhibitions on most floors. And if you are hungry - and NOT on a tight budget- try lunch or dinner at the two-star restaurant 't Zilte on the top floor (see my other review for that). Antwerp has a great new attraction; enjoy it

Each floor has a different theme and is well laid out to be of interest to all ages. Not all of the displays are in english but there are leaflets to pick up as you enter each room which give more detail in other languages.

Personally I found the majority of floors interesting. There was one about power, one about death, another about the port of Antwerp. The displays were from all over the world.

The view from the roof is excellent, shame there is not a bar up there. You do not have to pay to enter the museum to see the roof.
