Was here for a two days seminar. Had a very big meeting room, service was excellent, and food and drinks adapted to meeting days. Rooms on the second floor, with a staircase in the room to the bedroom underneath the roof.Excellent room to stay for several days/weeks with a seperate office and seperate seats to look TV or enjoy a drink. Not at all the feeling of claustrophoby you can get in a lot of hotel rooms. Silent night, no noise from the center of Antwerp

The Elzenveld is a small hotel cum conference center in the center of Antwerp, and it's simply wonderful. Ever since 1996, when a German colleague introduced me there, I have been organizing meetings, workshops, small conferences, ... The staff always has been fully cooperative, and although the facility has turned a bit more commercial in the past 1-2 years than before, they're still worth the prices they charge... The location in the heart of Antwerp is also +++!

Room Tip: They have single- and double rooms which are highly acceptable. My handicapped partner and I prefer...

Didn't know what to expect when I saw there was still a very good price deal at this hotel left, but it's a very nice hotel, very clean, good beds, nice modern bathroom and very good central Antwerp location!
Even though in the city centre, it's very quiet.

We spent two enjoyable nights in this historic building. The bedroom was quiet and comfortable, and the hotel staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. An easy walk to the Cathedral and the historical centre of Antwerp; and the shopping streets were very near. Taxi from the Railway Station cost us €8, but that was much easier than getting public transport or a 30 minute walk with suitcases!

Free WiFi was appreciated. Breakfast buffet was fine, and they can make you (for example) scrambled egg with ham.

There is no bar in the hotel, but there are plenty of bars very near.

A couple of downsides. As others have commented, there was sometimes a smell from the drains. Also, I would have liked one TV channel with English news (eg BBC World) - the TV channel described on the TV as BBCW was showing old Western films whilst we were there!

With the ambiance, the friendly staff and the situation, we shall return to this hotel when next in Antwerp.

Room Tip: Next time, I shall ask for a room away from the lift.

Nice hotel, friendly staff, excellent breakfast, clean....but oh my giddy aunt LEARN HOW YOUR FIRE ALARM WORKS and also seriously get some procedures in place for dealing with fire evacuation - a few posters on the back of hotel doors clearly does nothing!

The alarm first launched into life just before midnight. Hardly any of the guests actually bothered to head out the hotel and obviously were happier to run the risk of burning in a fire than getting out of bed.

A few bleary eyed guests gathered in reception where it became clear there was no towering inferno... but also no staff... we tried the reception phone - nothing just an answer machine... and tried it again...and again...and again..

Somewhere around the point where if there had been a fire most of the guests would have been crispy bacon someone official staggered in in a foul mood - I'm assuming the security guard. He tried pressing buttons and got the alarm to go from constant ear bleeding siren to intermittent ear bleeding siren.

After barking at some of the guests and ignoring the rest he eventually told us it was a false alarm, but he didn't know how to turn it off and we had to just wait till 'someone' turned up to sort it out.

So I retired to bed & for the next hour or so listened to the intermittent wails of the alarm.

The annoyance of it all is one thing. But it is incredibly worrying how there really was no procedure in place for ensuring that if a fire breaks out at night that most of the guests don't burn to death. Because if it hadn't been a false alarm - seriously - that is what would have happened. Sort that bit out, that bits kind of important.

I stayed here for four days and found it a bit of a mixed bag. The location is exellent for access to the old city, restaurants and chocolate shops! The staff are very friendly and helpful, sorting out problems with the minimum of fuss. The room was big and modern enough with a flat screen television, but no information as to the different channels you can access. The room had an electronic safe, comfortable beds, good size bathroom with shower, a mosquito killing device and plenty of storage space. The Hotel, an old hospital, is a bit spooky, especially at night with the lit up nuns, and lights out.

I was dissapointed that as Breafast starts at 8.00pm on a Saturday there was no alternative breakfast on offer and as the coffee machine in the lounge had not been repaired there was nowhere to get a hot drink. Also the only cooked part of the breakfast was the eggs, so if you are keen on your sausages, bacon, hash browns etc. you will be dissapointed although it may help maintain a balanced diet! There is no bar onsite although there are two drinking places on the square outside the front of the building.

Whilst, I have some small criticisms of the hotel I wouold return.

The building is amazing. A restored 11th Century monastery with courtyards, old church buildings. Like a museum. It’s been converted into a hotel conference center and the lobby area is very modernized but the place is still extremely charming. The room was recently renovated and spotless, very comfortable, quiet, large flat screen TV, free wi-fi, water bubbler in the hall. It’s about 10-15 minutes walk from the Grotte Markt, the shopping street is only about 5 minutes. The train station though is close to half an hour walk, and while there is a tram stop just in front of the hotel, it requires a change to go to the station.

I did not have any trouble finding it, it's well marked, but you have to walk through an archway on the street and then another one in the courtyard to get to the entrance. And it was a little creepy walking back alone in the dark from the center of town. I don't think dangerous at all, just no people around and the entrance way lights on the timer don't come on as quickly as they might.
