I booked this hotel because it said that free wi-fi was available, but it was so slow that it was unusable.
Although the window had a modern aluminium frame it wasn't possible to close it properly. Even with the heating on sleeping with a jet of freezing air hasn't been very comfortable.
The place was not so clean.

Dear,
Many thanks for your recent stay & feedback.
Obvioulsy I regret that we have clearly not met your expectations. The internet signal is normally always strong and steady in all rooms & public area's, except when lots of guests are Skyping or downloading at the same time (as we offer 'unlimited' free Wifi at the hotel).
I hope you give us a change to welcoming you back at the Sir Plantin Hotel and let us prove that we can offer you an attractive price/quality ratio.
Kind regards,
Wim

We stayed here for 4 nights in November. There are pluses and minuses to this hotel but for what you pay overall we found to be good value for money.
The pluses to Sir Plantin: Hotel has a chic look and feel to it. The staff at the front reception desk are very helpful, polite and courteous. The room we stayed in was spacious and had the most comfortable pillows we have ever slept on! The mattress was also memory foam which I think is a wonderful idea to ensure guests have the most comfortable of stays and ours definitely was! The room also has a wall mounted tv which has channels in different languages and we were able to watch bbc news and other channels in English when we wanted too. There was a free minibar in the room that had 3 bottles of water, 2 bottles of sparkling water, one bottle of fizzy orange and one bottle of beer - this was stocked up everyday. Guests were also able to have free tea and coffee in the reception area whenever they pleased. Free wifi which we found to be quite fast and reliable.

Now for the minuses: The hotel was on a busy street so if you had a room at the front like we did you often heard vehicle and street noise. We also felt the walls were a bit thin as we often heard conversations from the rooms next to and above us. We heard sounds that we weren't expecting such as loud groaning obviously during love making which is not pleasant for guests that are trying to sleep and could tell when other guests were having a bath or shower. We found the bathroom not to be of the highest clean standard and that was on our first impression - things such as visible dirt underneath the toilet bowl and dirty marks on the mirror. Our room wasn't cleaned everyday even when we put the request tag on the door and one day we were given new towels and when my husband went to dry himself after a shower the one he used had a massive slit in the middle and there was no way with the size of it that it could have been missed by a cleaner when being put out. Double room only has wardrobe/storage space for single person. Tea and coffee not particularly the nicest I have had.

Hope this helps and have a good stay in Belgium!

Room Tip: Pay extra to get upgraded and you will get a room at the back away from the street noise.

Just came back from 2 nights at Sir Plantin. Where should I start? The location is not great, far from centre of town and probably at one of the busiest roads in the whole of tiny Antwerp. Lobby was great, sleek with lots of sofas etc. Went up to room and what a disappointment, room small, carpet with SEVERAL stains, walls with several stains. So although I'm sure it was clean, it just looked dirty to me. But the worse was yet to come...room 305, THE noisiest room I've ever stayed in my whole life and I've travelled a lot. There was the noise from the busy road, the noise coming from other rooms, like the shower, people talking, the tvs, phones ringing, alarms going off, literally everything, the walls are that thin. I mean, you can have a hotel in a busy road but come on you have to invest in good triple glazing or whatever! And thicker walls. You can't open the window, the air con didn't really work AND it was quite noisy so it was always quite hot in the room, especially after you had a shower. The corridors are black walls and black carpet, needless to say, the carpet always looks dirty when you come out of the lift. It's nice of them to offer free minibar drinks and coffee and mini croissants downstairs but that is it...I'm not staying there again and will not recommend to my friends.

We stayed for 2 nights and we thought the hotel was good value for the money. The desk staff were very helpful in offering directions, looking up restaurants on the internet and generally helping. Although the main wifi wouldn't work with my blackberry, they did give me a code to link to the office wifi whilst in the hotel lobby which was very useful.

The downside
Couldn't open the window at all and since a/c wasn't working properly, the room got stuffy. Although there was a free tea/coffee machine, there was no milk for the tea. Being British, we like milk in our tea! We were allowed to take some from breakfast and put it in our fridge. It would have been better if there were tea & coffee facilities in the room as it was a bit of a Health and Safety issue carrying hot tea up in the lift.

The upside
The rooms were well appointed. The beds were very comfortable. The minibar was restocked with 1 beer, 1 OJ and 4 waters every day. Breakfast was good, if a bit hectic!

Dear,
Many thanks for your recent stay at the Sir Plantin.
I'm really astonished about your comments regarding the failed internet connection as usually our highspeed Fibernet Wifi operates very well. It is most likely due to the security/safety settings on your corporate laptop that the connection failed. As the majority of the hotels in Belgium we are working with Coriotech, speciliazed in internet connections for hotel guests.
Please note that our 'Plus Rooms' on the back of the hotel (Zurenborg view) are not affected by possible traffic noise.
I would like to apologize about the problem occurred with the French television channels that now has been solved.
I hope you give us a new change to prove we can offer great value for money.
Kind regards,
Wim Van Respaille (General Manager)

Stayed here for one night on our way between Brussels and Delft and I would have to say for what you're paying this place is exceptional value!

While the place is oh-so-slightly out of the central city, it's a 15 minute walk to the main train station and it's not a bad walk to the city. The rooms are clean, spacious and well appointed.

If I were going back to the city, I wouldn't hesitate booking here again.

Also, ensure that you make your way to the squares directly south of the hotel, there are some lovely restaurants and bars here without having to go all the way into town.

We stayed 2 nights for a nice weekend before Christmas in Antwerp. Sir Plantin is a very nice and modern hotel with a darkish type of design. The rooms are pretty trendy as well as the long dimly lit hallways. Magazine and drinks were provided in the room. The bed was very comfortable and bathroom nice and clean. Good breakfast as well.
Located by a main road but not too far from the city center about 10 minutes walk to Central Station. If you go by car, I'd advise to look out if you park in front of the hotel, as our car was towed away because when we arrived it was raining so heavily late at night that we didn't see the 'forbidden to park' sign while we were parking in front of a garage.

Dear,
Many thanks for your recent stay at the Sir Plantin Hotel Antwerp.
I'm very pleased that you have enjoyed your stay with us but feel bad that your car got towed away as you unfortenately didn't notice that you were parked in front of a garage. I will check with my neighbour to see if he (or even the hotel) can improve the 'forbidden to park' signage.
Thank you once again & look forward to welcoming you back at the Sir Plantin in the not too distant future.
Kind regards,
