Its a beautiful statue of a kid with his dog sleeping with the mother earth comforting him as a blanket. Cant even think of the artists marvelous imagination who made this.

Nello & Patrasche Statue besides being a great piece of street art also has a really touching story.
The sculpures are based on a famous Christmas fable ( A Dog Of Flanders ) from 1872 about an orphaned boy and an abandoned cart dog who form a strong attachment and roam the streets of Antwerp together, set in Hoboken ,the pair get into scrapes together and through a series of events eventually end up in the Cathedral Of Our Lady were they eventually die together, a touching Christmas story indeed.
The statues make for some great photographic opportunities and is easy to locate on Handschoenmarkt in front of the cathedral, well worth checking out if your in the Groenplaats area.

This is an amusing statue on (in?) the pavement outside Onze Lievre Vrouwkathedraal depicting the story of a little boy, Nello, and his faithful dog, Patrasche, who go to the cathedral every day to see the paintings there by Peter Paul Rubens. They die together in poverty. The statue was made by the artist Batist Vermuelen and is based on the 1872 book 'A Dog of Flanders.' There is always a large crowd around the statue wanting to photograph it.

The statue Nello & Patrasche was located just in front of Cathedral of Our Lady. It told about the story on the orphan boy and the abondoned cart dog. The place would be crowded with visitors and taking a photo there would be difficult.

When we visited we did not have the advantage of hearing the story behind the statue but we were thoroughly amazed at it. It is just such an unexpected diversion from what you normally see. And such a sweet sentiment!
