“You must go”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

I go to this patisserie often. I honestly love just about everything there from their macaroons to their quiche and of course croissants. I have to agree with the other reviewer...there is always a line on weekends. However if you do make it there (they open at 8) on a weekend you're in for a treat because they have these amazing Almond Croissants stuffed with something very delicious (almond based) which are only made Saturdays and Sundays. They also will take (special) orders. For example they made a batch of mini croissants upon request as they only carry the large croissants. I also like how they make their bake goods on site. There is another popular French Bakery in the Hague (Michel) in which they bake everything off-site. I would have to say nearly all of my French friends prefer Michel's for croissants and baguettes. I personally prefer Phillippe's croissants and find he has a larger selection of bakery items. In addition, this is one of the few shops / bakeries open on Sundays in The Hague. It's a must!

“Not a restaurant, but go there non the less!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2012

I saw this languishing in the 'no reviews' yet section on Tripadvisor - perhaps because it isn't a restaurant, or even a coffee shop but is merely a patisserie where you can buy bread and cakes... But Oh! What a patisserie! The street it is on leads off 'De Fred" or to give it its proper name Frederik Hendriklaan, one of the more select shopping streets in the Hague. The shop is actually on Aert van de Goesstraat. It is commonly known as The French Bakers by expats living here. The shop opens at 8am every morning except Monday when it is closed. However on a Saturday and Sunday morning you need to go early since there is always a long queue snaking its way out of the door and into the street. Needless to say, the bread and croissants are excellent and come in many varieties. You have to queue past the cake section to get the bread, and this will no doubt have you drooling too! Just go there and look for yourself. The staff speak Dutch, English and French and happily switch from one to the other. Do not visit in August, since in French tradition, the bakery shuts for the entire month for staff holidays!
