“19th Century charm meets 21st Century comfort”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

Hotel des Indes has done a good job of preserving the hotel's 1881 heritage while providing guests with modern comforts and amenities. Location is good and within easy walking distance of most local points of interest. The neighbourhood has a nice vibe and is full of nice boutiques, bars, and restaurants.

The reception area is intimate and guests are seated during the check-in process. Our front desk agent seemed pretty misinformed about SPG elite benefits, annoying but no big deal. I had two "executive rooms" that shared a private foyer. One of them was a corner room. I don't know if the rooms were upgrades, but they were reasonably spacious and very comfortable. The rooms each had a seating area, minibar, iPod dock, dramatic high ceilings, and elaborate draperies and bed linens. The rooms had modern marble bathrooms with separate tub and shower, heated towel racks, and fixtures that were made to look like they were from the 19th Century. Very cool.

The bar and dining room are ornately decorated and felt historical. I wasn't a fan of the retrofitted fluorescent light fixtures in the bar. We enjoyed a round of drinks one night and found the noisy chatter of the staff and the clanking of dishes as they loudly prepared the room for the next morning's breakfast to be a bit unprofessional and bothersome. Breakfast was buffet style and unremarkable. At 35 euros per person, I would skip it unless you get if for free as an SPG Platinum amenity.

The spa is modern and is located in the hotel's basement. It features a quiet relaxation area and a retro feeling pool that's tiny but kind of neat. The steam room is huge and very steamy. At 36 euros, parking is typically pricey, like everywhere in Holland, and cars are left parked outside in front of the hotel. The hotel's small size is apparent throughout and service is generally attentive and relatively friendly. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room. If you are SPG Platinum, be sure you receive all of the amenities that you ar...

Always wanted to stay at this hotel and the opportunity arose end August. The room was fantastic, very spacious with an amazing view of The Hague. Despite the fact that the room was by the lift, there was no noise whatsoever and the air conditioning, which normally keeps me awake, was quiet and effective. The hotel bar area was lovely, very atmospheric, you could quite easily transport yourself back in time. We had a couple of issues though: my friend arrived late afternoon Friday and was told the room wasn't ready and the following day after returning from a day trip at 3:30, found that our room hadn't been serviced. On both occasions we were given a drinks voucher which was a nice touch. You get free wifi for a day then are forced to pay a premium amount to continue (which in this day and age is ridiculous). Didn't sample the food but the dining area was always busy and afternoon tea very popular. All in all, a lovely hotel and enjoyable stay.

We stayed at this hotel for about a bit more than one week with my family before we moved into our house a couple of years ago and we loved it.
It is a beautiful hotel, right in the middle of the hague.
A must see in Den Haag.
Next time I'm back visiting The Hague I will surely stay here.

It was our first time to The Hague, and with business in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, we decided to stay here in the middle. The hotel is close to the main train station, and we were able to get trains easily to both other cities. The neighborhood had great atmosphere, quaint shops and a multitude of excellent restaurants - as well as a really unique antique market right outside the hotel on the weekend.

The hotel has been renovated with exceptional attention to detail. The rooms are appointed beautifully and the staff was impeccable. The spa and exercise room were first class, though could use a recumbent bike.

The only thing about the hotel that was not perfect was not their fault - the rooms in the back opened onto a lane that had quite a bit of construction going on in a building nearby so we were awakened pretty early several mornings by loud hammering. I am sure that this is a temporary problem, but is worth making sure that you have ear plugs if you want to sleep in until the construction is finished.

When staying here in the the Hague - make sure you make a trip to the beach for dinner one night. There are dozens of restaurants right on the beach ranging to every taste in menu and music - most with nice fireplaces to keep you warmed by the ocean.

Room Tip: Check to see if there is still construction going on in the back of the hotel and ask for a room awa...

Dear Traveller,

Thank you very much for choosing Hotel Des Indes and for sharing about your stay with us. We are very proud to read that you had a great time with us, and thank you for sharing!

As you already mention, the location of the hotel is very central, close to the shops and beach. As you describe, there is a great antiques market right in front on Thursday and Sundays during Spring and Summer. Also you will find some great antiques shops in the Molenstraat, just a 3 minute walk from the hotel.

Impeccable and memorable experience at this incredible hotel in The Hague. One could tell from the outside with the rich yellow and red exterior that the inside would be very special. Amazing guest rooms - sons felt like kings sleeping in their canopied beds. Our room was palatial in textures, fixtures and bedding. Highlight was certainly Afternoon Tea and Dinner, Hotel Des Indes style. Fabulous teas to choose from and all served very graciously and professionally. Truly a gem of a hotel in Europe. And The Hague was fabulous to explore - a very elegant, sophisticated city with style and flair. Thanks Hotel Des Indes for a truly exceptional hotel experience. We will be back for sure!

Room Tip: A room overlooking the park/art walk promenade is great.

Dear Traveler,

Thank you very much for visiting Hotel Des Indes and for taking the time to share your experiences online. We are delighted to learn that you had a great experience with us and have passed on those compliments to the team.

As you already mention, it is great to stay at the front site of Hotel Des Indes, to overlook the Lange Voorhout. The other sites are equally as interesting as you will experience the beautiful dutch image of tiny roof tops and in the far distance you can even see the sea.

The Hague itself is well kept secret and only 30 minutes from Schiphol Airport. It is charming city
with a village feel which makes exploring the galleries, museums, parks and shops a pleasure.
One of the highlights of the city is the Hotel Des Indes which from the first step over the threshold transports you into a world of elegance from a bygone period. The staff are exceptional and are all obviously proud of the Hotel and their part in making a visit into a memorable experience.
We stayed for 10 days and this attentiveness never faltered.
The Bar & Restaurant are excellent and the Anna Pavlova cocktail has to be tried...and savoured
The Hotel is beautifully positioned only 15 minutes by foot from the station and in the tree lined
park opposite is a collection of modern sculptures which also boasts a Sunday antique market .
The location is perfect for meandering through the cobbled streets and squares admiring the many beautiful buildings, canals and Palaces.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting the Hague.
I cannot praise it highly enough to do it justice.

Room Tip: We had room 405 which boasts a terrace overlooking the trees with views to the city.

Stayed here for several weeks for recent business trip. Hotel is beautiful. Former royal family entertainment home. Rooms are small but nice. Staff is pros and attentive. Food in restaurant is very good but there are hundreds of places within walking distance. It sits next to a great tree covered park and next to several shopping areas. All the staff is multilingual a great benefit for a person with only one native tongue. There is a SMALL gym and pool with trainers and nice facilities. Also a spa, but I cannot comment as i did not use. Nice conference rooms, wifi.

Room Tip: High tea is a big deal here. Lots of locals and tourists come in to partake. Seems very nice..didn...
