“Very convenient location, unfortunatelly poor service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2012

I stayed at Babylon hotel for 4 nights on a business trip. I did not have much time and actually only stayed there to sleep at nights. I booked the hotel because of its convenient location just next to the Central Station. The room I got was very dark and when I opened the window I could observe people in the shopping centre (and they could of course observe me). The wifi connection was very poor and the internet on the TV was a bad joke (IE wasn't able to deal with pages like gmail, trainservice etc.), so u better bring your own laptop (there was a wired internet which I didnt try). In the bathroom the cans with soap and shampoo were empty and after reporting it only one of the two was filled which was very unconvenient). For the rest it was ok, but I would just expect a better service for a 4star.

Room Tip: I understood you can only connect to wifi at GF and 1st. It was possible to connect on 2nd too, thou...

Dear Sir / Madam,

Thank you for your response. I am pleased to tell you that we are in the process of installing new lighting in every room. Also our WiFi and wired connection will be upgraded in the 1st quarter of 2013 to high speed standard.
Our housekeeping department has taken appropriate action to prevent the empty cans of soap in the near future.

Kind regards,

Rob Hemmes
General Manager.

I had hoped this hotel was going to be at least bearable due to its convenient location to the train station and our new office, but I was wrong. I usually wouldn't spend my time writing a review such as this, but am doing so because I would reallly like to hotel to fix them so I can stay there again in the future.

Keep in mind I was there on business; tourists would likely not be as demanding. For the record, I stayed there in Room #903 December 10-13. Anyway, here is the list:
1) No WiFi in rooms, only on bar/restaurant area but the connection was not reliable;
2) No minibar in room;
3) TV location does not face bed so it's difficult to view without craning your neck;
4) TV remote control was difficult to use and unresponsive;
5) TV had only two accessible channels;
6) The heater did not work;
7) Faucet design on shower/tub is horrible. It took me five minutes to figure out how to turn it on;
8) Shower had low water pressure (perhaps because of top/9th floor);
9) Shower temperature fluctuated wildly between very hot to very cold;
10) Shower/tub did not drain properly so I had to shower in two inches of bathwater;
11) The shower's curtain/deflector allows water to collect onto bathroom floor;
12) The front panel of the soap dispensers fall off and requires reassembly to work properly;
13) There are no amenities provided in bathroom such as bar soap, shampoo bottle, cream, etc.
14) The elevators are slow;
15) There must be something else that I've forgotten.

The positive aspects of my stay should be mentioned for fairness:
1) Great breakfast buffet. I think the price was 17 Euros;
2) Very nice and hospitable staff;
3) Excellent convenient location;
4) Comfortable beds.

Room Tip: Stay on lower floors to save time on elevators.

Pros- easy access from Den Haag station. Easy access to all public transport. Decent breakfast. Clean and value- for- money room. Gorgeous view of a lovely park.
Cons- No wifi access in the rooms. Only wired internet. Big downer while using smart phones.

This hotel is very convenient to The Hague Central Station; literally a few steps away. The staff were efficient and helpful but hardly warm or welcoming. For the modern traveller, free Wi-Fi is an essential rather than a luxury and, unfortunately, this is only available in the lobby. The restaurant is spacious but, again, the guests are left, very much, to fend for themselves. An occasional check to see "if everything is ok" or to top up a coffee would be welcome but such courtesy is conspicuous by its absence. The breakfast fare is extremely limited in choice as it consists of cheese, processed meats, breads and more cheese. The scrambled egg and miniature sausages appear more like an afterthought.
My room was spotless and comfortable. Yes I’d stay there again; but only when on business.

Modern Hotel, with very welcoming and helpful staff.
The rooms are correct but not impressive.
Wifi is available in the lobby and in the bar but not in the rooms, which is a handicap is you have a a Macbook Air.

Stayed one night here and I wouldn't bother again. The bathroom was dirty..... and for the sum of Euros 225 - I do expect to have some treats in the room such as nice smellies, soap, shampoo etc. Not a bit of it. Soap was in dispenser and same for the shampoo / body gel.... Is that really necessary? There was no wifi above the first floor and I was staying on the fourth floor. There was an internet connection for laptops but for foreign visitors who want to use their smartphones without incurring very expensive roaming charges - it was very annoying.
The food in the main dining room was average, service - average, took ages between courses ..
Considering the cost - I expected a LOT more. Suffice to say I won't be coming back .... the only plus point is that it is right next door to the train station.

Room Tip: Don't bother

I haven't stayed at the Babylon for a while. It has now become the Hampshire babylon and is still very pleasant with a very nice helpful staff. The restaurant is not bad at all. The dining room and bar are airy and very comfortable with very large windows giving onto the park.
The rooms and beds are very comfortable.
On the down side, the rooms and bathrooms were quite clearly designed by men for men. You need to love grey and beige. The Dutch economy light bulbs now found everywhere doesn't do much to warm up the atmosphere. The bathroom shelf and mirror are quite high up and the lighting is not women-friendly. Making up becomes a hap-hazard affair. The (very good) dryer is also quite high up with a short tight spiral cord. Hair drying can be a challenge if you're left-handed and not very tall.
But the strangest thing is the new buildings on two sides of the hotel. They are disturbingly close even in the upper floors to the point of being a bit oppressive. I've never seen anything like it. Right now the buildings are empty, but once the offices are in use, guests may feel really exposed. It isn't possible to see inside the rooms during the day when the lights are off, but guests will be visible at night with the lights on unless you draw the curtains (I asked). If you're on a business trip and in your room at night only, you'll be fine with the curtains closed.
The upside is that those two sides are very quiet. The other two are noisier.
It is however a very nice hotel and ideally located for downtown, trains, buses and trams.
