On a trip to The Hague, I stopped here for lunch. As the menu was in Dutch, the waitress was very helpful in translating. She recommended a dish that had a combination of their 3 best dishes. It was a mini hamburgers, beef tartar and an egg Benedict with smoked salmon. Very delicious meal and great service. The atmosphere of the cafe was also very cozy and quaint. Highly recommend stopping in.

At the suggestion of the front desk staff at our hotel, a group of three business colleagues and I visited Andermans Keuken for lunch on a recent trip to The Hague.

We sat outside and were greeted immediately by our waiter, Daniel. He translated the entire Dutch menu into English for us and made some recommendations.

All four of us ordered the hamburger. Don't stop reading yet. This burger was not like any other. I'll get back to it in a minute. We also ordered two appetizers.

The first appetizer was a plate of asparagus, ham and some sort of creamy (bernaise?) covered potatoes. May is asparagus month at the restaurant, so that had a number of asparagus dishes. The white asparagus was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The ham was very thin and was delicious. The potatoes had a creamy sauce and some fresh herbs and were amazing. We devoured that plate in time for the next appetizer - french fries. These homemade fries were crisp on the outside and were served with a mayo based bacony dip. Awesome.

On to the burgers. When we were served, we were surprised at how tall these things were. It was a fresh bun, two hamburger patties, some sort of pink sauce (like thousand-island), a huge slice of ham, melted cheese (provolone maybe?), lettuce, tomato and maybe even some onions (can't remember about the onions). A side salad with some sort of crispy fried leeks was served with it. I know it's hard to make a burger sound good, or different, but this was great.

For dessert, I ordered the creme brulee which was the best I have ever had. It came with a small bowl of ice cream in an edible chocolate shell with homemade whip cream. Daniel also brought us each a complimentary dessert - a fresh berry mousse-sort-of-thing with the whip cream as well. Everyone loved it.

The server was attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant was clean and it was reasonably priced (for The Hague). Our total bill was about 67 Euro. (USD $95) That may sound pricey, but a similar meal from a restaurant on par with this one would be as much or more in the U.S.

By the way, the menu included fresh seafood, steak tartare, and numerous other options. The burger was about the least fancy thing they had, but was delicious and very popular.

Will definitely be back next time I'm in The Hague.
