“nice cafe”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

Is a very nice place, especially in summer with the great terrace in the big pedestrian zone in the centre of The Hague. They have a great quantity of (Belgian) beers.

“good food, good beer”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2012

Went here once with colleagues and once with another couple. Found the staff to be well switched on about the beer. Food was also to a good standard.
Would class it as closer to Belgian cuisine than Dutch.
Suffers from the lack of enforcement of no-smoking leglislation as it gets later and as the music gets going.

“seduced by the beer menu”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2012

walking round the hague on a wet winters evening, discovered the delights of Rootz.
The beer menu is epic, but the bar staff are happy to give recommendations according to your tastes etc, ensuring that you get the most from all thats available. Food was good, reasonably priced and served quickly.
A great oasis from the cold. definitely worth a visit

“A must-visit in the Hague”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2012

We visited The Rootz (the one located in the city center) for a business dinner, and we were a rather large team (more than 30 people). The decoration is really nice, full of menu blackboards and brick walls and makes the place look cozy. Service was fast and prices looked normal. The place boasts to serve more than 80 kinds of beer!

We tasted a wide variety of beers and all of them was excellent (though most of mine were Belgian, for some strange reason!). We started with some tapas (not traditional stuff in the Netherlands!). The menu was also really nice, consisting of a started (rather small portion), a main dish (nice portion but I didn't like the gravy of my lamb leg - on the other hand the steak looked delicious) and dessert (a selection of various sweet stuff). All of them was high quality so no complaints. The waitresses were also really kind and running all over all the time, in order to catch up with the large number of beers and dishes ordered by our group. Bonus: the place was totally smoke-free!

I am not sure about the cost of the menu, as the local hosts of the meeting were kind enough to cover the expenses; however, I am sure that it is not the most expensive bar-restaurant in the city, despite its quality. In any case, I would recommend The Rootz for a visit, at least for having a beer or a drink while you are in the Hague!

“Belgian beer in the Netherlands”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2012

There are two branches of this bar and restaurant in the Hague - this one in the city centre, and another on the harbour in the beach area of Scheveningen, about 3 kilometres from the city centre. A large selection of Belgian beers are available-enough to keep my partner smiling, and he is a great beer fan! As well as the standard offerings, there are a number of more unusual ones available, all advertised on chalk boards. Wine is also available by the glass, as well as a selection of bottles from the chalkboards at 21 euros per bottle. You can choose from typical Dutch borrell snacks such as bitterballen, kaasstengels, loempia or vlammetjes or have a full blown meal. I did not have a full meal on this occassion but had a tasty Belgian stew there about two months ago. The menu had changed on this visit but there were Belgian style dishes to suit every taste, including more than one vegetarian option such as a vegetarian tarte which is actually a sort of frittarta. There is quite a mixed clientele, business people, students, people just out for a drink, and larger groups eating. As it is quite dark inside, it feels a bit like a Bavarian beer hall. Although the staff are friendly, it can be difficult to get attention to order extra drinks and get the bill.
