“A hotel over a Chinese restaurant. Enough Said.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

First of all, there's probably not much reason to visit Rotterdam unless you are on business. So this hotel does have the advantage of being right near the train station. It is also near the modern shopping and office areas. But the hotel itself is on a sketchy street in the Chinatown area of Rotterdam. It is literally above a Chinese restaurant, the hotel "lobby" is the entrance to the restaurant.

The upstairs is dingy. getting up there is the worlds steepest and treacherous stairway or take the elevator which is an antiquated retrofitted minibox for one person. Rooms are also dingy, smelled vaguely of old smoke (even though its supposed to be non-smoking). Bathroom is very small, no counter, you have to maneuver around the sink to use the toilet. Shower was tiny. If you are a plus sized person, you won't fit. Breakfast is ni the aforementioned restaurant and is basic breads and cellphone wrapped crackers, some cereals and a small ham/cheese plate.

The good points, besides the location near the train, is the bed did feel fresh and clean (even if room and carpets didn't), and it has clearly been renovated at some point. There is a ton of noise outside as you are on a busy street, but with windows shut it was surprisingly quiet. However, you will probably want windows open for some air. Price is very affordable (under 100 Euro) so good value.

This is not a hotel I would normally look for, but for one night it was fine. Rotterdam is under 1 hour by Fyra (high speed train) to Amsterdam so bext time (if there is one) I would seriously consider staying in Amsterdam (see my positive review on Raddison Blu) and just commuting into Rotterdam.

Room Tip: Rooms 14, 24 and 34 are in the corner with windows on two sides for better ventilation. Higher up is...

Arrived for the North Sea Jazz Festival. Hotel is very conveniently located near to Rotterdam Central train and metro station. Rooms are large by European standards, clean and the staff tried hard to please. They even called North Sea Jazz to help with ticket reservation! Aircon was not working in the first room and they promptly changed another. Toilet was choked and they got to fixed within the next 1-2 hours. Security is good and overall a pleasant experience.

Had stayed here for 2 nights - a nice hotel to stay - just 3 minutes walk to Centraal station where you can get trains to Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam etc. It is a 15 minutes drive from the Airport
There are couple of Casino's nearby as well as nice pubs and restaurants.

The qualitiy of the staff and the rooms are oké, but in any other way this hotel misses the standard you should expect with a four star rating. Our rooms were situatad at the back site of the hotel. We wee lucky to have een few sunny days, but when we entered our rooms in the evening it was almost 39 degrees! and noting els but a single tablefan and two hardly to open windows to cool it down.

The hotel is a former hostel which is gradually being upgraded, but the parts we saw were still in very tired condition . During our visit it was undergoing major exterior renovation and the front was covered in scaffolding. This is not mentioned on the website or elsewhere. Workers started working immediately outside the windows of our ("executive") room at 8am, drilling and creating fumes so it would have been quite impossible to stay there until the check-out time of 11am. We were offered a compensatory free stay to be confirmed by email, but this never arrived.
Shame because it is well-located and the reception staff-member we dealt with was polite.

Room Tip: Check carefully which rooms are affected by the renovation - for now avoid the front rooms.

Stayed at this hotel several times as our HQ is located nearby. For this purpose it is very convenient , but is also ok if you would like to go to the city center.
Rooms are minimalist and amenities basic but bedding is comfortable and it is very clean.
The service is very friendly and breakfast is quite nice.
Evenings the breakfast room turns into an extension of the sushi restaurant, which brings animation but does not disturb when in your room. Rooms at the back of the hotel are preferred as the front is at crossroads (almost) with trams and cars passing by.
