“great for photo lovers”
Reviewed April 18, 2014

If you are a photographer yourself than this museum is for you.
What I specially liked was the room with the big white plastic boards that allowed you to dig deep into Dutch photo history.
Also very interesting contemporary exhibitions.

“Great "Dark Room", Ok-ish place to go”
Reviewed March 16, 2014

If you struggle with time in Rotterdam and need to put priorities between Sightseeing Highlights, I would recommend to leave this one out. Why?

Well the Location is a Little outside the Center, but in Walking distance. Entry fee was 9€ per Person. What would be your expectation on that?

In the end, there were 3 Exhibition Areas, where one was consisting of 3 Video Installation. For somebody who is not expert in photography this was slightly boring.
Second: There was photos of Kids and paintings of them. Is probably a nice Gimmick to check those, but in the end These were, like 20 pieces of art and done.
The third room was the most interesting, so called dark room. There it explained a Little the history of photography but as well put photography on context of the cultural and Society development. It is a nice interactive part and even in english available. (dutch & english guidance). So Overall, I was disappointed with the Museum, but found a few interesting pieces.

“good historical perspective of photography”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

I'm not a photography buff., but for anyone who is this is the place for them. An interesting special exhibition, backed by local exhibits. The best was the dark room, where you can take a card like a photographic plate and use it to view various exhibits of the history & development of photography in the Netherlands. If you are peckish it is next door to the Hotel New York, and has great views nearby of the harbour.

“Not a lot to see.”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

I found this venue difficult to find and disappointing. Perhaps if you are studying the technical aspects of art or photography then you would find this interesting, but I found the subject matter very niche.
