“Holland's tallest buildings on a single pier.”
Review of Wilhelminapier

Wilhelminapier
Ranked #27 of 197 things to do in Rotterdam
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 24, 2014

The Wilhelminapier is where Rotterdam's claim to be 'Manhattan on the Maas' gets the most credibility. Located right next to the Erasmus bridge, here you will find the 4 tallest buildings in the Netherlands. The area consists of modern architecture and former warehouse that have been redeveloped into restaurants or museums. Architecture fans can find designs by world famous architects such as Norman Foster, Renzo Piano, Alvaro Siza and ofcourse local Rem Koolhaas. There is plenty to do here. The pier is home to a theater, the national museum of photography, an arthouse cinema, restaurants and a few hotels. During the summer months, the cruise terminal welcomes cruise ships on a weekly basis, which makes for even better views.

This former harbour area has been transformed into a residential an offices area. Not all building project have been executed yet, but still there is enough to see. Visit the historic Hotel New York, go to the movies at Lantaren/Venster, have dinner at one of the restaurants, cross the Rijnhavenbrug into Katendrecht towards the Rotterdam Steam Ship and visit the brand new building De Rotterdam by famous architect Rem Koolhaas. Don't miss the Wilhelminapier when you're visiting Rotterdam. Combine it with a walk over the Erasmus Bridge towards the Wilhelminapier.

If you are going on a Holland America Cruise, you have to come here. In which case, you should stay at Hotel New York and save yourself some stress.

If you are just wondering around, the water views are nice and you can get an excellent view of the big bridge. And, it serves as a shortcut to another part of town.

There are some good restaurants, but you have to look around for them or know where they are.

The pier is under renovation so I expect that in 2014, it will be a much hipper place to visit.
