“More for children”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

I wasn't interested in going in, so my husband went in on his own. He was back in 20 minutes, commenting that it was geared more towards children.

“Great for Children. Very pro- active.”

Ok but more geared for children. A lot of narrative in Dutch so we were unable to understand it. We liked it if you are interested in Maritime History.

“Never seemed to be open”

Shame because they have a great collection of cranes and steam tugs etc. You can walk about between some of them. It would be nice to know if they ever have days where the cranes are operational but everything was in Dutch, could not understand it.

“Good, diverse museum, interactive and modern”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

This museum is located in a large building and the museum takes advantage of that space. The first floor helps you understand the city and it's surroundings in it's harbor context. One floor up you still have the Rotterdam view, but here you have computers with touch screens and you can navigate through Rotterdam's maritime history, which actually is a bit addictive...so force yourself away from the computer and have a look at the big paintings of several ships. Explanation again given via a touch screen, which enables you to get as much or less information as you like. The information is both given in Dutch and English.
After that you get to learn and experience all kinds of stuff about the Dutch maritime history, maps, trade etc. The top floor is reserved for temporary exhibitions. At this moment they have this great exhibition about cruise ships and one about piracy. Very hand on and kids love it... as did I!

“We like it here”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2013

We wanted to learn something about Dutch maritime history and this place did not disappoint us. The materials were light enough so there wasn't the issue of information overload. However, you could still learn a thing or two about Dutch East India VOC, Mercator map, maritime piracy and medieval voyage to discover new world. We love it.
