Owner description: The Kunsthal Rotterdam is one of the leading cultural institutions in the Netherlands. With over twenty exhibitions a year, the Kunsthal offers a programme that is dynamic and always surprising. The Kunsthal is continuously transforming, and with its regularly changing exhibitions able to offer crossovers between various art disciplines. From modern masters and contemporary art to forgotten cultures, photography, fashion and design. The Kunsthal's exhibition programme gives it its national scope and international allure. In its iconic building designed by Rem Koolhaas, the Kunsthal stands for three core values: art, culture and society. The Kunsthal is not a museum, nor does it wish to be. Not having its own collection gives the Kunsthal absolute freedom, and making optimum use of that freedom is where its strength lies. With a small team, a wide range of exhibitions and activities are realised with a high turnover rate for a diverse audience. This is what makes the Kunsthal different from other institutions in the museum sector.

There is at present an exhibition about Jean Paul Gaultier "from street to cat walk" showing all his amazing and bezaar designs including those worn by the rich and famous like Madonna. There is a video telling his story and many of his clothes which are displayed on dolls which have projected faces either speaking or singing to show off the clothes.Just a littlke advise, remember to take a camera of your phone to take photos, we forgot which is just another reason to visit the show again.

We went to visit the exhibition of Jean Paul Gaultier. A very nice exhibition with wonderful dresses and other clothes. To enter the museum we had to wait outside in a very cold wind. Only one place to pay...one person on sunday! Later they opened an extra place to pay.
Other exhibitions at the same day were rather poor.
The restaurant was closed at 4 o' clock, one hour before the museum closed.

We went to see thd Avant Garde exhibition and we were thoroughly impressed- the exhibition is temporary but well worth a visit if it's still on- lots of amazing, famous artists all in one exhibition- awe-inspiring. The building itself is great and has some great exhibition spaces- the cafe was lovely too. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would recommend.

I am not so much of a museum person and can get bored very quickly. The great thing about the Kunsthal is that you will pay for entrance but will have acces to all exhibitions so you will also see things that you would normally not go and see.The last time It went from miniature cars to syrian underwears (!), every visit will be a day to remember.

OK Rem Koolhaas has designed the building and the Kunsthal has had a hard time getting people to go see what they had to offer, but that didn't take long. Different expo's every few month and every one of them a must to see. Super!
