This neighborhood, once a very important harbor area, was in the last years transformed into a social, cultural and architectural hotspot. Lots of modern buildings, most of them office buildings, a new (and equally modern) theater, the emblematic Hotel New York and the national photo museum are what Kop van Zuid is known about. It is a nice place to walk or bike and there are things to do, but I wouldn't classify it as a tourist attraction, unless you spend a longer time here in Rotterdam.

A thriving district of Rotterdam, where old factory and new buildings coexist. You can find commercial buildings, business hotels and old corners that remind New York. You can "visit" it if you go from Erasmus Bridge to Fenix Food Factory.

London has its Docklands with Canary Wharf and Rotterdam has its "Kop van Zuid". Although it seems a bit arrogant to compare Rotterdam with London, both areas, Docklands and "Kop van Zuid", are city redevelopments on abandoned and derelict harbour areas. Conceived almost 30 years ago with as biggest advocate ms. Riek Bakker, then director of Rotterdam city development, it has resulted in a complete new district on the south bank of the river Meuse with skyscrapers, hotels, houses, shops, the Rotterdam court of law, a theater (Luxor) and to top it off the magnificent Erasmus Bridge. I must add, that some heritage buildings, like warehouses, the cruise terminal and the former offices of the "Holland Amerika Lijn" (now Hotel New York) were retained to blend in with the new buildings.

The Kop van Zuid has a perfect view of the tall buildings and Erasmus Bridge as well as the water. Definitely a perfect viewpoint.
