Nice hotel, we were up in the sloped roof attic room. Very spacious, all amenities, no complaints. Friendly staff. Didn't have the breakfast so can't comment on that. Quiet, no real traffic noise. Safe in room.

My first impression of the hotel as we walked up the sidewalk was "this will do". After a week here (to see the tulips), I was in love with this place and its staff. Tony, one of the owners, brought me a coffee as my husband checked in. All week long he was full of advice, friendly tips on restaurants, sights to see, directions, culture. As we returned daily from our adventures, he was always interested to hear what we had done. The rest of the staff was equally attentive.
Our room #38 was small but very comfortable. The breakfast was more than substantial to start us off each day. The car park is extra, and the entrance is tight, but it was sure worth not worrying about street parking.
The courtyard at the rear of the hotel is a lovely place to enjoy some quiet time.
We had friends joining us from Germany, and we were able to request a room that access to the courtyard where they could smoke.
Two restaurants are just a half block away - Ari's and Wester Paviljoen.
I highly recommend this hotel if service and hospitality are important to you!!!

Room Tip: Our room #38 has a small balcony

Although the rooms are average - decently sized but furnishing is a bit dated, this is a great choice for a short stay in Rotterdam close to the heart of the city. There is a private parking nearby, some 100 meters back at Mathenesserlaan 177 - be aware that if you have a large car you'll find the parking entrance a bit challenging.

A nice nearby dining place is Wester Paviljoen, the choice is not overly extensive but if you're looking for decent food, cold beer and quick serving then it's you best bet.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing the street which can be a bit noisy.

Located on a quite street. We had one room for 3 adutls on the ground floor. Room was large and bathroom was also. Shower with tub. Not much counter space for wife or enought lite for her which seems normal in the Netherlands and Europe. The decor needs updating. The hotel has free computer internet.. Restaurants are just down the street. I also praise the breakfasst and coffee. Wonderful service by the owner and staff was 5 star. If you have big bags or older than 50yrs take a taxi.

Good little hotel in the centre of Rotterdam.

Pros - excellent location near the museum district and close to restaurants/shops.
large rooms
excellent breakfast
lift (the stairs are VERY steep)

Cons - shower sometimes a bit feeble and lukewarm
decor a little dated (but clean and perfectly fine)

We recently spent one night at the Hotel van Walsum. We were able to check in early (around 11 a.m.) without any problems. We arrived by train and walked from the station (an easy 15 minute walk). The hotel is in a nice, residential area. The tram is nearby but we walked everyone on our short visit.

Our room was quite small but was spotless, lovely and very well equipped. We had a kettle for tea/coffee and a safe. The bathroom was very clean and modern.

Breakfast was delicious and served nice and early (I think it started at 6:30).

We really enjoyed Rotterdam and would like to return. We would definitely stay at the Hotel van Walsum on a return visit.

I stayed at the Hotel van Walsum because I was doing a course at the nearby Erasmus MC. The location is very good: the hotel is at five minutes walking from the Erasmus MC, and easy to reach by public transport.

I rather enjoyed my stay: the room was well-equipped and not exactly cramped, staff was friendly and the breakfast was very good. The only niggle was the shower: it worked, but not well. Otherwise, I very much recommend this hotel.
