“Hotel on a marvelous spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2012

This hotel is located on "the Kop van Zuid" a central place on the river Maas. Very nice spot with vieuw on the river and the skyline on the other side. The building is an old office of the Holand - Amerika Line and since some years ago a very special hotel. It is old fashioned with an out look of a steamer in earlyer times. We didn't eat there but on friday evening it was very busines in the grand café and the restaurant with joly people.

Room Tip: Room at the riverside woth vieuw

Holland isn't exactly known for it's excellent hotels but Hotel New York is on of the rare excellent hotels. Great central location, good service, very comfortable rooms/ beds and a very cool nostalgic atmosphere. The restaurant is fun even if the food is pretty average but the staff is very friendly and make it worth while. Reasonably priced, I highly recommend this hotel.

I attended a business meeting and then stayed on for a day. This is such a fascinating blend of old and new. The main fabric of the hotel is pretty much as it was a hundred years ago, and yet, in the rooms and where it matters in the common areas the most modern innovations have been used without destroying the wonderful atmosphere.

The rooms are wonderful, large, airy, well appointed and although fitted with modern amenities, still radiate the period feel. The beds are extremely comfortable and quieter than one might expect.

The food is excellent, and the real buzz of the entire experience is the atmosphere in the huge dining room / bar area. You really can feel the ghosts of those souls leaving Europe for the New World behind echoing around the tables.
If you are going to stay anywhere in Rotterdam for a couple of days, please give this a try, you will not regret it.

One suggestion is to build a covered walkway to and from the car park, you can get very very wet in a short space of time walking from the door to the car park if the rain is lashing down, and some sort of decent ramp or lift for large luggage at the main door would be helpful.

We stayed two nights in this wonderful hotel, of which one night in the 'large' towerroom. Wonderful riverviews and very nice staff. Make sure you visit the italian barber shop and get yourself a nice shave...location is wonderful and in the middle of rverything. The watertaxi brings you everywhere quickly.

Third time we have stayed here and this trip was just as expected fabulous . Hotel water taxi is useful to get into Rotterdam and then walk back to hotel from city centre which has lovely shops and cafes. Another tip take double decker train to Amsterdam. Only problem with the hotel there was no plug in the bathroom and apparently we are the first guests ever to ask for one I was worried my contact lens would disappear. Also the hotel tells us they are very green so why are they letting all this water float away? Anyway they found a plug it didn't fit but it helped!!

Room Tip: All are great

This is an amazing hotel with special rooms kept in themes ! Spend a night in one of the towers so the guest have a latter from the room up to the tower where the view is magnificant !

Restaurant is very good - seafood minded.

Good service and friendly personel.

Room Tip: Take a look on the internet before you book and go for one of the theme rooms !

Great hotel, always enjoy a stay here. I try to book different rooms every time and never gets disappointed. Have stayed so many times now that I frequently get offer on free upgrades if rooms are available. Unfortunately they get fully booked rather easily so you have to plan ahead. Love the restaurant and that they put in A/C some years ago! Probably a must to get the elderly American cruise guests booked there...
