Stayed in this hotel prior to a cruise from Rotterdam. It was a great unique experience for a low price. All the old elements in the hotel are great. The room is clean and with a 50's style. Really great. Breakfast was good and the service also.
We had a room with a window. Parking was about 15 euro's a day.

The SS Rotterdam has been renovated in a style which reflects its glory days of the 1950s and 60s. It has lots of stylish features such as retro furniture and quirky toiletries.

The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are larger than expected. However, there was one major problem. There was a loud banging noise throughout the part of the ship where my room was situated. This sounded like a heavy metal door banging shut. It kept me awake at night. A colleague thought that it might have been caused by a smaller boat which was tied up alongside the ship. I mentioned it to reception and they were not aware of any issues although I'm surprised if no-one has mentioned this before as it is so loud.

There is a standard charge of 9 euros 50 for the minibar regardless of how much or how little you eat/drink. This is unfair as I did not want some of the products in the mini bar but did want the water so had to pay the full price. A number of other guests were caught out by this (although there were signs in the fridge advising of this policy).

The hotel/ship is in a residential area with no shops or bars nearby. It took 50 minutes to walk to the centre of Rotterdam. The closest metro was about 15 minutes away. Taxis from the train station cost about 15-25 euros depending on the time of day and traffic.

The breakfast selection is okay although the bacon was sitting in a lot of oil and the eggs sat for some time so were not particularly fresh. The pancakes and waffles were also dry from sitting under head lamps.

Meeting Rooms very nice. The cabin was okay, but internet, tv, telephone, airco all did not work. Window cannot be opened. Room cleaning very sloppy (dirty towel folded and hung back up, cups not washed up).
It might be a while before this is really a nice location, but right now - it is not!
