“Different and fun experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

Stayed one night in the hotel on the former Holland America Cruiseship the SS Rotterdam. This ship is now moored in the Rotterdam harbour and cannot sail anymore. But it was renovated into a luxury hotel with restaurants, bar, meeting rooms, theater, etc. We stayed one night after haqving had dinner with friends in the restaurant. The room (a suite) was comfortabel and in the style of the late fifties, the time the ship was built. It is a nice experience to do this once just for fun. Of coourse for the late fifties this was a luxury liner, now it would not meet those standards looking at the luxury cruiseships of today. But that's what makes it unique and interesting.

Room Tip: satying in a suite is not much more in euros, but a lot more comfy.

We stayed this weekend with the family on the SS Rotterdam. The hotel is in the old renovated rooms of the former cruise ship. It's a real nice atmosphere. It looks like you are back in the sixties. The rooms were spacious; with a flat screen TV, good beds and a bathroom. There are clean and good.

The reception is good and helpful. We stayed for the weekend and it is not at the best location for visiting Rotterdam. I would recommend staying here for one night and not the whole weekend. If you like to go to the city. You can use the shuttle service. This was only between 16:30 and 19:00. Other ways off entering the city are: bus, taxi or water taxi. We used all three. The water taxi is fun, but we were also left standing for nothing even with reservations. This was a bit unfortunate.

The hotel has a nice restaurant and a great deck to sit in the sun.
The hotel itself doesn't have any extras for the hotel guests, like a real swimming pool, fitness center.

A must do is the tour. There are a lot of volunteers working on the ship and they take you back into the 60's including great stories they have experienced firsthand. They really make the tour fantastic and it's great to hear their stories.

Staying at a Cruise ship has something magical to it. Well, a stay at the Cruise hotel Rotterdam is certainly a great experience.
After checking in, the walk to your room, using the big stairs and the small hallways starts off the experience in a special way.
The rooms are the double size of the original cabins, which is big enough. Rooms have their own "theme" which is nice if you should go there more than once. Beds are good and bathroom has everything you need.
I visited the Oyster bar when there was live music playing - it was maybe a bit loud, but still OK.

We combined business+ mini holiday and we were so pleased by our choise. Close to the city centre, very clean, excellent decoration, very well maintained. Food was a bit expensive though. The kids loved the whole idea!

You want to go back in the real old times but with all the convenience and luxury of today?
Steam Ship Rotterdam has it all for you. For your (business/private) event, for an (exclusive) dinner or afternoon tea...
Close to the city center of Rotterdam where you can shop till you drop. Close to water taxi Rotterdam which allows you to speed over Rotterdams waters. Close by Herman den Blijkers (Hollands famous cook) restaurant 'Las Palmas'. Nearby Hollands Football Stadium of Feyenoord... Cruise Hotel should be in your trip when you plan a full weekend in Rotterdam.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms facing the water side not the city side.

This magnificent restored old cruise ship hosts a very good hotel (spaciuos rooms, excellent beds and sufficient shower facilities, all in perfect style of the fifties! Good breakfast and dining facilities make it a good choice to stay when sleeping in Rotterdam.
Parking facilities are great as is taxi, tuk tuk or shuttle transport.
We also did a tour, we spent two hours seeing all the beauty of this ship.
and all for decent prices........

We stayed two nights at the SS Rotterdam in late June 2012. Our room (Superior) was very nice, comfortable and spacious. The staff was friendly and all staff we encountered spoke very good English.

Pros: Comfortable, spacious and quiet rooms; a unique experience for those who have never been aboard a 1930/1940 era trans-oceanic liner; the room was very reasonably priced.

Cons: The hotel may be difficult to get to for those not familiar with Rotterdam (From the main train station take the tram to Rijnhaven, then bus 77 to the hotel). The hotel is also quite isolated for someone who wishes to do a lot of sightseeing. The easiest way to get to most of the main attractions is by water taxi at a cost of 9 to 11 euros per person. The cost of meals, drinks, etc can be expensive...example, the breakfast buffet, which is quite good, is 11 euros per person.

We enjoyed our stay, but would probably not stay there again.
