“Service good, food not impressive.”
Reviewed July 17, 2013 via mobile

The view is lovely, the beers really cold. Bit food was average. Indeed a popular spot. We ordered a few appetizers and a friend a salad. Been there, dine that.

“The place to be!”
Reviewed July 2, 2013

Leiden is a city of canals, and many restaurants take advantage of the beautiful scenery with canal-side tables and floating barges with tables. Annie's is the largest and best located, right on the junction of the Old and New Rhine rivers.

In mid-summer, the setting sun aligns perfectly with the canal, so you get the maximum sunshine. The place is often packed, but the turnover is good so you can usually snag a table, and you can easily stand around with a drink while you wait.

The food is pretty standard Leiden fare, burgers, ribs, some simple pastas. I wouldn't say the food is great, but it is perfectly adequate for the location. They have a very good beer list.

The service was friendly and fast. When our kids were complaining about sun glare, they dug up some promotional sunglasses for them to keep, which was a nice touch.

If you are new to Leiden and want a good canal dining experience, head to Annie's first, then explore the other options later in your stay. The really good restaurants are a few blocks away from the water, where people come for the food and not so much the incredible views.

“Sunny seating on the canal.”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

People come here in droves to enjoy the late afternoon sun, not the mediocre food served on the crowded floating patio. Situated on the canal and safe from shade as a result of the absence of nearby tall buildings, this place can bask in sun long after it has set for the other restaurants around town.

Service and food are acceptably average, but if those things are at all important to you there are plenty other restaurants around to choose from that would be preferable over this one.

If you are looking to sit in the sun and have a drink this is probably the best spot around. You definitely won't be alone.

“uncooked chicken”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

It was all going fine until we received our satay chicken which was not cooked. Having brought to the attention of the waitress she insisted on feeling it to make sure it was uncooked, she then proceeded to put her fingers in the chicken. And then insisted on taking it to the kitchen to have the chef check. I'm sorry but you know very well when chicken is uncooked. And did she really think if they disagreed we would eat it having had peoples fingers in it. There was a verbal apology but nothing as a gesture of good will. They eventually agreed to remove the chicken from the bill but all other items had to be paid for. Lovely location but completely put us off our food and worried we were going to suffer later as a result. Would not recommend.

“Nice food, friendly staff”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

She had snails as a started, and a lovely vegetarian pasta with a goat-cheese stuffed portabello mushroom. He had a tasty duck starter with a small spring roll, slices of duck breast with hoisin sauce and noodle salad; with venison as a main. Nicely prepared and presented by friendly staff in welcoming atmosphere.
