After reading the reviews on tripadvsior we didn't have high hopes, but as the building looked lovely and we had time, we decided to go in anyway and i must say it was much better than expected, maybe not the paintings of the great Dutch masters that lived in leiden, but still enough to see and discover, we loved the three piece the must.

We spent about 5 hours here one day, although luckily we were able to leave for a lunch break and come back. We read all the English information beside the paintings. We would have really appreciated an English audio guide. The receptionist was very friendly.

This pearl of a museum in Leiden that normally homes stunning 17th century Dutch master crafts like tiles, silverware, paintings from Leiden's precision masters, now hosts a totally contrasting exhibition of their local modern metal sculptor Frans de Wit. Here you will find amazing metal sculptures that range in size, number, scale, and dimension. His work is also found around the city, in front of the Naturalis museum. The video & photos show how De Wit thinks and works in unimaginable monumental scale. There are so few abstract artists in the world that astound you with the majesticness of material & size...a real eye opener!!!

While staying in the beautiful town of Leiden this spring, I had a chance to visit this wonderful museum. They were showing a world-class exhibit of a early renaissance master, Lucas van Leyden. The facilities are wonderful and the curating of the show just terrific. I would definitely add this to the list of must-see attractions in this most wonderful city. Go already!

See items on assembly line that are discussed on scheduled days….much different than most museums. Illustrates history of the town including Rembrandt (born in Leiden) and his contemporaries as well….. May not have stopped in if I did not have the Museumkaart.
