Owner description: Museum Volkenkunde is a museum about people housed in a historic building just five minutes' walk from Leiden's central station. Museum of a very high quality. Very good for the whole family. Allow at least an hour and a half to cover the whole exhibition

“Very nice museum, even for non-museum lovers”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

Not being a museum lover myself, but wanting to show family a museum in Leiden, made the choice to visit the Museum voor Volkenkunde. Having everything in Dutch and English was helpful for the family coming over from the UK.

The museum displays lots of items from different countries and different cultures, which brings a lot of variety to the visit. The special exhibitions, in our case the Terra Cotta Army, the history of the Totempole and jewelery from India, were definitively worth while.

“Best museum of Leiden!”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

I love this museum. The information is both in English and Dutch, so it's also worth the visit for people who don't speak Dutch. If you love other cultures and countries, this is the place to be! It's diverse, every continent is represented. They have unique objects, fascinating images. I could spend hours and hours in this museum. Also, it's one minute walking from Leiden central station, so the location is great as well.

“Nice museum”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

Good collections from the pole areas, Asia, Africa. Great 'speurtochten' (treasure hunts) to keep the kids happy & amused. Nice new building, going thru some renovations so check the website for which exhibits are open.
