Let me start by saying that I much prefer small quirky hotels to the large anonymous international chains - so the Huys van Leyden had a good start.

While attending a trade show in Amsterdam a colleague and myself decided to stay in Leiden to escape the crowds. He found this B&B and we were given the two rooms at the top of the house. These were ideal with high ceilings and a great sense of space. Breakfast is served “in room” with most of it provided in the room’s fridge and warm breads being delivered at your chosen time in the morning. Each room has a coffee maker.

The bed was extremely comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for the shower.

A ten minute stroll along the canal leads you to a large square with a wide range of restaurants for dinner.

The couple who run the Huys van Leyden were very welcoming and helpful. I would have no doubts about returning there again in future.

Room Tip: Rooms above the ground floor are accessed by a (very Dutch) spiral staircase. Anyone with mobility...

We have just spent 3 nights in this superb B&B in Leiden. We were allocated Room 3, which has 2 levels - the lower level has a lounge room with flat screen TV, kitchenette, with cooking utensils for light meals, and bathroom, and upper level a large bedroom, with a huge flat screen TV. We had access to a large rooftop terrace. Each day a large assortment of fresh breads and hot boiled eggs were provided to our room, at a time we arranged, and in the fridge we had an assortment of cheeses and meats, as well as milk and juice. The house is located a short walk from the city centre, supermarket, and central station. We would highly recommend this B&B if you require accommodation in Leiden, The Netherlands, and it certainly is excellent value for what we paid.

Room Tip: If staying more than 1 night ask for Room 3

This comfortable B & B is about 15mins (walking) from Leiden Central Station. Excellent location close to shops and restaurants. A very warm welcome awaits you at Huys Van Leyden and nothing is too much trouble. We had a kitchen, seating area. shower room and T.V. downstairs. Upstairs a king size bed , large screen T.V. table and chairs and a door leading to a roof garden with table and chairs. The other rooms available are the usual type of room with en-suite facilities. Fresh bread and boiled eggs were brought to your room at whatever time you requested them in the mornings. There was also available cereal, ham, cheese, yogurt, fresh orange juice, jams and butter. Tea and coffee making facilities were also in your room.

We spent a night last week and were very happy with the kind hospitality of Gaston and Lorenzo in their newly renovated and beautifully furnished house. The bathroom was new with a great shower and they placed a full breakfast in the room. We borrowed their bikes and cycled around Leiden, which was our favorite city in Holland.
They gave us a suggestion for a nearby Sumatran cafe, when we asked for spicy food. This was delicious- do not miss the restaurant. Our best evening in Holland. Thanks Gaston and Olivier.

This hotel was booked as part of a cycling trip through Tulip Cycling. Beautiful old building, tastefully restored and centrally located. Wonderful room and facilities - tastefully decorated. Owner was welcoming, informative, and helpful. He genuinely wanted my trip to be successful. My bike went into the secure garage immediately. The room was equiped with a small fridge, water cooker, Nespresso coffee maker and was fully supplied. Breakfast was waiting for me in the fridge when I returned in the evening and hot bread appeared with a gentle knock at my door in the morning. A small glitch with the Internet server meant that the Internet connectivity was unreliable. However, with the attention the owners pay to detail and to visitors, I expect that will be remedied immediately, if it hasn't been already done so. Beautiful building in a historic quarter and an easy walk through the city. Well worth a stay.
