I read the reviews on the noise and was still unprepared. It isn't just that you can hear kids playing from the room, these kids were making so much loud shouting and yelling noise - and nobody thought to shush them. The hotel is dated, but seems well maintained. The staff are completely professional and friendly. It is the other guests that seem to make this hotel experience not all it should or could be. We had a man running up and down the hall outside our door at 7:30 in the morning, chasing and encouraging his toddler to scream - not caring that my head was three feet from the corridor in which he was encouraging this. Kids were screaming and running wild up to and a bit beyond 10 pm. If you tried to play ping pong, every mishit of the ball sent it under a two foot gap between the barrier fence and the floor resulting in someone having to run around the fence into the hall area to get the ball. This could be remedied by extending the partition to the floor. My six year old son loved the turtles around the water feature in the eating area. We ate one dinner while there and the bill was about 80 Euros for two adults and two kids, 6 and 12. I felt the value was closer to 40 Euros, so we did not make that mistake again. Yes, kids eat free with a paying adult, but at 29 Euros and extra for drinks... it adds up fast. I have never stayed at a hotel where other guests took no care about their surroundings and others who may be trying to sleep. This hotel seems to attract that. The parking was easy and we had internet in our room. There was no extra charge for towels or sheets as some hotels in Holland are doing. There were a lot of positive things, but noisy unmanaged kids will ruin this place - even if you have kids.

Room Tip: As far away from the playground as possible. Maybe even have a "no kid" section.

Dear guest. First of all please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you experienced. Please be assured we have taken approprioate steps and we will do our utmost to eliminate this problem. Thank you for your positieve words about our staff. It's always nice to receive a compliment, I'll forward your kind words to all of them. We get a lot of compliments on our all-you-can-eat dinner buffet (every Friday we serve a very popular Italian buffet!) and with the kids-eat-free-program dinner costs are very limited for families. Again, thank you for your feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Kindest regards, the Holiday Inn Leiden Team.

First time in Leiden and so first time at the Holiday Inn Leiden. First impressions were somewhat mixed - the car park seems to have some building work taking place with an uneven surface and several piles of building material. Not exactly an encouraging place to leave car overnight (though on check in you are invited to park behind the hotel nearer your room).
Once in the hotel though the impression is much more favourable, a large reception area and impressive lobby area. The welcome from reception staff was warm and efficient, explaining the nearer parking.
Walking through the hotel to the room is a unique experience in this hotel, walking through the lobby and restaurant gives a good overview.
The room (an exterior facing room on 3rd floor) was spacious, spotlessly clean and with all the facilities you'd expect from Holiday Inn.
The only drawback is the noise. Walls seem thin between rooms, with music being heard from neighbouring room well into the night. The corridors also seem to be used a race tracks by children staying in the hotel - not a problem at night but beware if you don't want an early start!
There was also the unusual problem of a dog barking and howling in one of the rooms throughout the stay. If you are looking for a good nights sleep some earplugs may be in order.

Room Tip: High outside facing rooms should, in theory, be quieter.

Thank you for your comments, we're glad you liked our hotel. I can inform you we're 'cleaning' the landscaping and parking lot at the present moment, we fully understand your comment on this issue. The parking lot has barriers and guests can park their car right in front or near their rooms. Nice to hear you enjoyed the hotel and our staff, we'll inform them as well. Please note one can always call the front desk if there is noise from a neighbouring room (children, music or a dog barking, guests with dogs are told that they should not leave their dog alone in the room), we have 24/7 duty managers who can solve these kind of problems. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. We thank you for your feed back, we appreciate you taking the time to inform us adn we look forward to your return stay.

This hotel has pretty decent rooms and has some great facilities for families including a pool and games equipment. If you are staying there as a single traveller, however, beware the noise. Fully half of the rooms face a very large open indoor space which contains the restaurant and some games for children. The noise echoes around the space. It is horrendous. The design of this places is extremely poor. After the first night I asked to be moved to a room not facing this open space. The staff were great. They arranged it immediately and even organized for my luggage to be moved during the day so I could go out. However, even though the new room was not facing the noisy open space, there were children staying in the upstairs room and their running thudded constantly against the ceiling of my room. The insulation is very poor. For families this seems like a pretty good place, but as a single traveller you should only stay here if they can guarantee you a top floor room not facing the public areas.

Thank you for your feed back, we really appreciate it. You are correct, the rooms on the interior side are indeed more suitable for families, children can walk 'free' through the play area, swimmming pool, etc.. The exterior rooms near the free parking lot are more quiet. Thank you for your kind words concerning our rooms, facilities and our great staff, we'll inform them of your comments. Just tell us what you need when making your future reservation, we'll be happy to help. We look forward to seeing you again in Leiden soon. Kindest regards, Ronald Reichert, General Manager

We have been back a number of times as a family and our stays have always been of a high standard. Perhaps if you travel with kids you become more tolerant and as long as the kids are happy, you are happy. We've tried outside rooms, inside rooms, rooms on the upper floors and ground floor and they have always been clean and tidy. The breakfast staff are always so nice and even pull up tables around the fish pond so our 3yr old can eat breakfast and watch the fish and turtles at the same time.
The location may not be ideal if you want to visit the centre of town but hey, I bet you none of the hotels in the centre offer free parking. Being located where it is it does however, give you great access to the roads for the coast, The Hague and Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Travelling with kids we find the ground floor inside rooms work best for us.

Dear guest, What a nice review, thank you very much. We're glad you and your family enjoyed your stay with us and even more how nice to hear you all enjoyed previous visits as well. We'll forward your kind words to all staff, especially the breakfast collegues in our Garden restaurant. By car we're only 10 mins from the city center, the local bus takes approx. 15-20 mins. We also rent bicycles (on a bike it is not more than 10 mins straight to the center of Leiden). You're at the beaches of Katwijk with a bike within approx. 20 and Noordwijk in less than half an hour. Again, thank you for your feed back. Will we see you back soon? We do hope so. Kindest regards, Ronald Reichert, General Manager

What a dive. A gloryfied motel.
Must have been a motel before it was turned into one of the worst Holiday Inns I have ever stayed in. Seriously!
Room was like a box, no ventilation. Shower, come bathtub was plain dangerous to stand in.
Shaving mirror only suitable for giants.
Later and after I cried in a corner, I was after a nice space to sit and have dinner.
Forget it. A dimly lit restaurant with its own indoor waterworld (see it to believe it). Had a look at the buffet. Overcooked everything and unidentifiable nothingness. Huge pieces of cheese and the worst cakes and desserts in my living memory. EUR 30 for that? Not worth EUR 15, in my opinion. I left in a hurry and uninspired and HUNGRY back to my room.
I am trying hard to find positives. Wait actually, why am I trying hard to find positives? To please them? NO! 1/5 and you are lucky. Avoid!

Room Tip: find a better room by going to another hotel!
