“no surprises, but some steep stairs”
Reviewed August 15, 2014

It wasn't clear if we were supposed to go down the same way we came up. Somehow it works and the descent is separate and fairly safe. They ground grain, and then steam power took over. An important technology that helped create the golden age.

“Up in the clouds”
Reviewed August 15, 2014

I didn't realise a windmill can have nine floors until I came here. Yet, I didn't want to miss anything to I went up and up and up even though coming down was a little scary. It was well worth it. I am glad the volunteers have preserved this wonderful icon of Holland.

“Interesting”
Reviewed August 7, 2014

First time inside a real windmill.
The lower floors where people used to live arranged originally, and the upper floors show you the mechanism of the windmill. Small museum that explain the history an uses of windmills. Nice panoramic view of the city from the terrace.

“Really interesting, beautifully presented, great views and not too busy”
Reviewed July 30, 2014

We went on a rainy day and really enjoyed this little museum. It has lots of interesting information and artefacts, really well presented inside the windmill. I had been very curious about the Dutch windmills, and this place answered all of my questions. It was a nice quiet museum too, and I thought they did a great job of ordering the information as you climb through the windmill. Great views of Leiden from the top too. A surprisingly excellent attraction.
