A must see in Leiden, wonderfully preserved. It shows just what a windmill was like. A great museum for all although as you'd imagine there are plenty of steps so not great if you're dodgy on your feet!

This may be your only chance to see the inside of a real windmill/residence, and it is worth a visit. It doesn't take long to see, the entrance fee is reasonable, and its very well maintained. You cannot do this, however, if you have mobility issues as there are many many narrow steep stairs. The view from the top outside is really nice. Small shop at the end for souveniers.

The museum has 7 floors, and the top ones are accessed by narrow wooden stairs like ladders which can be a bit scary when you come down again (backwards), but I thought it was well worth the effort as you can see the internal workings of the mill. There's a video when you first go in (in 4 languages including English) that gives a lot of information about windmills in Holland. One of the higher floors has an external platform which has lovely views, but you need a head for heights.
A unique attraction in a really lovely town, and good value for money (4 euros per person).

Having been to Leiden and viewing this magnificent windmill from the outside many times one day we took a venture inside.

It was a lot more spacious than expected and the museum was very informative.

Downstairs you see how the people who operated the mill used to live before heading upstairs to see how the mill itself used to operate.

There is an interesting video to see about the variety of uses of windmills and some interesting displays about exactly how many windmills used to be in Leiden. Amazing quite a lot more than there is already!

Also it's great to go on a nice day where you can go to the platform and take photos of Leiden and the sails.

This is a great windmill that you get to walk in and tour. There's a "balcony" level to walk around outside and get great views of the town. There aren't many windmills that offer tours, and certainly not many that are this large! This is a great stop and a must see!!!
