This windmill museum is old-fashioned but oozes charm. Walking around and climbing all those stairs is like going back into history, say, into the 1950s. The view from the plateau is absolutely worth the climb.
The smaller windmill De Pot nearby is worth going to if you want to buy good flour milled in this mill. Do not miss the Stadstimmerwerf on your way there; it is the most beautiful building!

You come across this right as you leave Leiden Central station. When you come to The Netherlands you of course want to see a windmill. Well you not only get to see one but you get to go inside one. Inside you get to learn all about them. There is a video which I found very usefull, it gives the history of windmills all throught out the world. As you make your way up the windmill you get to see the living space of the people who once lived in it. You get to see all the working parts of it. Towards the top you get to step out on the balcany and you get a great view of the city. You can go all the way to the top of it. The day I was there it was very windy which was neat because you were able to watch a windmill work from the inside, moving parts and all. Its located next to a park and there are many great places to get good photos. Its not expensive has a cute gift shop, and is pretty much the fist attraction you come upon. Go check it out, its worth your time.

You cannot miss it. Just as you come out of the Leiden Centraal station to the canal and look to your left....there it is. A very good spot to take a photo of the mill is from the bridge with the park and the canal in the foreground.
One has to spend just half an hour to see this lovely windmill, with detailed descriptions in English as well. Climb the narrow wooden stairs to the top and get rewarded with the 360 degrees view of the beautiful Leiden town.
I enjoyed my brief visit, and you will too.

This mill has been converted into a museum of Dutch windmills. Besides enjoying its structural beauty, you can see how the lifestyle of old-time millers used to be. You can also learn about the different types of mills in Holland, their importance, their history and their uses. In addition, you can witness the working parts in action whenever there is wind. Totally advisable if you want to dive into windmills and find out why they are something more than just landscape pieces.

The museum is an old windmill with a rich history that tells the story of the windmills in the Netherlands. The tour takes 2-3 hours. Highly recommended.
