“Good training camp for budding mountaineers”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

Stayed here for 2 nights while on a business trip to Delft. At the time of the trip there was some form of Music festival on in the town, so most of the street near the hotel had marques up and outside bars etc, which was really noisy. However I won't allow that to interfere With the review of the hotel as it was nothing to do with them.

The hotel is set in a picturesque are of old Delft, and from the outside looks like most of the other buildings around and about.

Inside is generally modern and clean, with a few quirky items dotted about. All of the staff I encountered were very helpful and friendly with good English.

To get to your room you have the choice of lift or stairs. The lift takes an age to travel up and down, however the stairs are very very steep and twisty so shouldn't be attempted by anyone how has mobility/balance issues.

I stayed in a room on the 3rd floor which overlooked alleyway, the room was a fair size, with a large comfy bed, the bathroom was compact (your knees are pretty much touching the radiator if you're sitting on the loo) and is on a slightly different level to the rest of the room with a 2" step to get in. Not a major problem other than when trying to have a nocturnal trip to the loo, my toes were ruined by the end of the stay.

Really nice place, but I would advise against stay here if you're elderly or have mobility issues

Room Tip: Worth discussing direct if you have mobility issues

Our stay at the hotel was spoiled by a street party/beer festival right outside the premises. The music and chatter stopped by 2330 but the traders were moving beer barrels etc by 0530 the next morning. This is not the fault of the hotel, and it was nice to have a sense of the vibrancy of the city, but made for a poor nights sleep. It was exacerbated by very hot weather so had to make the choice of leaving window open and it being noisy or closing window and being stuffy.

However, the overriding memory is the quirky hotel and fantastically friendly and helpful staff.

The rooms were quite small and dated with a compact shower room. The single bed made the room reminiscent of a teenager's attic room, but was comfortable. There was a bit of a stale smell from the drains, but that may have been the glorious weather and it soon cleared when the velux window was opened. The window had thick curtains and a blind, which gave the room a good blackout.

Breakfast was healthy, a good selection and a nice departure from the boring grease-ridden full English that we come to expect at home. We didn't have any other meals at the hotel but the bar was well stocked with a range of interesting European bottled beers which was perfect for a nightcap after we returned from exploring the city - the charming town centre is just a minute or two walk from the hotel.

We stayed here for one night. The hotel has a great location, but the rooms look like a youth hostel. Beds are OK. It smelled a bit in the bathroom. Breakfast is very basic, but OK. It was incl in our rate, if I would have to pay separately I would advice to go to one of the many restaurants close by. The staff was friendly. All together just OK but a GREAT location!

If you're considering hotels in Delft, I can ensure that this is a very, very good one. Has bags of character and charm and is set in the nicest part of Delft, the Oude Delft (Old Delft). Peaceful area away from the shops but still an easy 4-5 mins walk through a slightly less intensive shopping area.

I was lucky enough to get the deluxe executive suite at a great deal last minute. I can't speak for any of the other rooms but this was just superb. Spacious, good quality furniture, modern bed, nice bathroom, it had it all. It was genuinely like an apartment. I couldn't fault anything (okay the minibar selection was slightly poor but in hindsight probably a good thing!). The staff were friendly and accommodating, allowed me to keep my bags in free of charge after checkout, housekeeping were efficient and friendly (gave directions etc, went out of there way), nothing was too much, always done with genuine care and a genuine desire to make sure you're happy.

The hotel is split into 3 buildings. I stayed in the Residence, which was based on schoolstraat, a lovely little side street/alley type thing with a fruit and veg market, a few quaint little houses, it was quintessential and frankly I was loving every minute of it. The location couldn't be better IMO. There's also a nice little garden in the middle of the building with some a cool seat and nice things to look at.

The bar was well decorated and served me a great beer. Staff were again on hand to recommend and offer me a taste before I buy. That's the difference between places like this and lower star establishments, you get treated slightly differently and it's worth a few extra quid.

Breakfast in served in whatever building you're in. It was fairly good, decent spread of meats and cheese, lots of nice breads too. Eggs etc all available. Coffees, teas, juices. All you expect. Fruit as well. Not box office but still really good, high quality food with ample to choose from. Ideal for me as I was cycling most of the day and needed a good start to get me going.

While I'm on the subject. The surrounding area of Delft is a haven for cyclists and if you like nature you'll be practically foaming at the mouth, it's that stunning. I felt like I was in a cartoon Disney film, it's so idyllic it literally took my breath away at times. I cycled almost as far as Schiedam I was that engrossed by what was around me!

To summarise, this is a great hotel in a lovely area. What more do you want?

Room Tip: Residence building was slightly loud at night with the church bell but I think that probably effects...

There are 3 buildings and we were in the museum one. It really is a 17th century canal house in a 17th century town. The location is perfect and if you are into historic, this is it. This is an amazing remodel of a 300 year old building right by everything a tourist wants to see in Delft.
It being a 17th century building remodeled to be a hotel is not odd as most buildings in Delft are really old and repurposed: it being a best western is what's odd.
I think where people with bad reviews got misled is that if you want US style standard best western, this is absolutely not it.

Room Tip: We had an 'attic' room which was great.

I stayed here with my family and were had mixed feelings about the hotel. The weird thing about this hotel is that it is split into two halves. The reception and bar are facing the canal and the accommodation is further down the alley way which is accessed by key swipe.

The room that my sister and I stayed in was over two levels, as you walked in the door the bathroom was to the left. After going upstairs you can to a roomy space that had great head space. Our only concern was that going to the loo in the middle of the night could be a bit of a hassle.

The bathroom was fine but I would have liked the glass shower screen to have been a bit longer.

Overall a good place to stay.

This is just ok.

Negatives:
- It looks outdated: the TVs look like they are from the early 1980s, the blind in my room was broken, the furniture doesn't look good or new, the bed could be
- The breakfast is nothing to feel excited about (I went to a French boulangerie (MIchel - just 1 min away) one morning and had excellent breakfast to break the monotony).
- Small room and low ceiling, at least on the top floor with half the room having slanted roof.

Positives:
- Location: this hotel is extremely well located on the Oude Delft. Only some minutes from the main square, the canals, and the many restaurants and bars of the city
- Staff are very friendly and helpful
- Not too expensive

Basically the hotel is ok, just fine. The location is perfect and the room is good enough. There might be better choices around, but if there are none then this is good enough.
