Owner description: The Vermeer Centrum Delft offers the visitor a discovery tour through the life, works and town of the 17th century master of light: Johannes Vermeer. The section 'Vermeer's world' shows you 17th century Delft. Wander through the famous 'View of Delft' and meet Vermeer's environment: his clients, his family and his rich mother-in-law. In Vermeer's world there are copies of all his paintings in their original size, an entire own world in his 37 works. Vermeer's atelier is dedicated to Vermeer's working methods. Discover how Vermeer mastered light in the light studio. Experiment with the camera obscura and play with colour, hidden views and perspective. And literally step into one of Vermeer's paintings. Many of the Delft painter Johannes Vermeer's paintings are about love. Sometimes it is obvious, but other times he subtly refers to it by painting certain objects or details. These objects and details can be seen in the exhibition 'Vermeer's love messages'. Learn to recognise the symbols in Vermeer's paintings. Besides a visit to the centrum, Vermeer can also be discovered on foot. An individual walk has been set out along all the highlights in Vermeer's life. The Vermeer Combiticket gives you access to all the locations.

Take an hour and do this tour. The tour displays well the reproductions of Vermeers work. For a person who likes paintings but does not seriously understand the art this museum explains so much and afterwards enjoy a great coffee in the cafe.

Very well worth the price of admission to see, in one place, replicas of all works believed to be Vermeer’s, and to be educated about his life and times as well as his work. This place has gone to a lot of effort to explain, in multiple languages, how he worked and about what the works include and what they might mean. Recommend the audio guide.

Lots of audio guides and replicas that try to give you a sense of Vermeer's Delft career. It was actually difficult to focus on the audio for each station since so many things were playing around me. if you're interested in Vermeer, probably worth the effort, but I found it overpriced and mundane.

Like a twit I visited this fascinating museum thinking we'd see Vermeer originals, but in retrospect I realise that I learned far more by being able to compare chronological copies of his work presented on a timeline. By viewing all of Vermeer’s artwork this way it was easy to pick up similarities: his favourite portrait angle (almost always the same), spotting familiar faces, and different versions of the same subject matter. It is also easier to spot obvious errors in proportion in the earlier pictures.
Afterwards, we had fun taking photographs of each other in the lighting gallery, where a variety of lighting options favoured by the artist is recreated.
The shop has some fascinating items for sale, so leave your wallet at home if you are on a budget! Overseas students take your card along – you’ll save 2 Euros on entry.

After viewing 4 of Vermeer's rare paintings at the Rijksmuseum in a throng of people snapping endless photos, this is an opportunity to truly understand the body of work that Vermeer produced in a thoughtful and calm atmosphere. The exhibit begins in the basement with a film about what is known about Vermeer's life and where he lived in Delft. It discusses the guild of artists he worked with and led on occasion and similarities in the work of other artists of his era. It shows a copy of each of his works in chronological order of when they were painted, which is informative on its own. An audioguide provides more background. Upstairs, there is a display which helps you to understand his techniques of painting light and shadow. Another display tells the type of paint he used and how it was produced at that time. There is another floor on the top of the building that is not clearly marked on the wall map that describes the meaning of various images recurring in his paintings. You need to take the time to read the displays in order to appreciate the great learning experience about Vermeer that this museum provides.
