“Best location in Vlissingen”

I'm staying regularly in this Hotel as view from a room overlooking the Schelde River is very nice, summer and winter. The rooms are refurbished nice bathroom and bedroom. During the slow seasons pricing is ok, however during the summertime they exagerate in almost tripple the rate.

Vlissingen is a strange town...kind of like being in Margate but in the Netherlands! Hotel was clean and conveniently located for the beach. Very smart restaurant outside which served good food, though the service was not very attentive. Wouldn't recommend eating anywhere else other than the hotel restaurant. Reception staff were not friendly. The room was just ok...we were on the wrong side of the hotel so couldn't see the ocean, and rather looked over a huge carpark! Very strange. Light was broken in the bathroom and there was no ironing board...though they did send up an iron (on its own!). Strange. My father was in a suite which was decorated beautifully but not exactly large for a suite. No room service at night which was annoying. Hated the live lobster tank in the reception...brutal and tacky.

Room Tip: I would recommend requesting a sea view room.

Location, space and rooms of this hotel are good: right at the beach, sea view, walking distance from city center.
Its four stars are probably more due to location and space than to service. Service is sloppy, at times inadequate or inprofessional.
What shouldn't exist for a hotel aspiring the 4-star rating is:
- we had totally worn-out, hollow matrasses. bad quality. Was only ' fixed' after complaining two times. Unclear how it was fixed, and no apologies. Bad beds are also reported at www dot weekendjeweg dot nl, although hotel keeps claiming the issue was new to them.
- The port wine we ordered was unusually watery. we asked to know what brand and type it was and complained about the quality. We didn't receive specific answers, but were offered an other glass from an other bottle, and this time the port was like it is supposed to be. Our impression was that we were given water-diluted port the first time.
- Coffee comes from a small DE-instant machine, cappuccino is watery and more like a bowl of milk. Either unprofessionallly made or from 2nd grade quality too, waste not disposed of.
- 2 nights insufficient room cleaning. dust all over, bed simply closed instead of made. After complaints they sent an other cleaner. The dust was removed and the bed made, but dirty glasses still forgotten and not replaced.
- Clumsy service in bar and lounge, obviously not professionally trained.
All in all: a hotel that has become lazy since most guests simply go for the hotel at the waterfront, or may not be experienced travellers.
But in terms of service, there is obviously no supervision challenging its staff to perform better, no care for details.

To provide guests with worn out beds, offer diluted wine, to fool guests with room 'cleaning' raises the question about the quality and service conscience - and ethics - of the management.

We had not pre booked a room, so were offered a sea view room for a reduced rate (but were unable to see the sea due to the mist). The room was gorgeous, very spacious with a small balcony, the restaurant and bar were nice and cosy, and the staff were friendly.
I would recommend the hotel, but was slightly disapointed with Vlissingen.

I have stayed at the Arion a few times, Its a good quality hotel, staff are attentive, but quite pricey.
A room at the front is a must as the road at the rear can be noisey with motorbikes.

Scored a good deal on booking.com; 115€/night for Fri-Sat-Sun stay. Super breakfast; mix of English and Continental, something for everyone. Large bar/restaurant/lounge area. Staff very helpful & friendly, especially with m 4 yr old. Super view of ocean, right across street from beach. Big public parking lot in back. 10min walk to center of town. Room was nice, bathroom great, jets in the tub. Don't put your kid's bubble bath in there! Will definitely come back!

Very good hotel. Many rooms now have air con which was good for my stay in July and very hot conditions. The chef and barman are great. The staff generally are A+. I would certainly recommend this hotel (but not when I want to go there in case its fully booked :-) )
