“Wonderful with kids ánd grown ups”
Reviewed January 28, 2014 via mobile

One of the best places to visit while in Utrecht. Beautiful collection of trains to admire. Lots of interaction and fun for kids (from 2-98) riding small trains, operating simulators and exploring different worlds and rides. During school holidays, the museum often has special events like an ice skating ring in December or the Thomas the Train days (very busy!).

“Nice trains, no information, and sad employees”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

Overall this is a pretty museum but I wouldn't go again. Upon arrival, the parking attendant made us feel as though we were intruding. For a moment, I thought the paid parking make be a scam as he followed us inside and sharply told us what to do in an almost military style. We hoped for better when we entered but the ticket seller was bored, verging on rude. We paid to full admission prices but she gave us one booklet to share. We had to ask for a second and she rolled her eyes.
We asked about accessibility, as my mother uses a rollator (walker). We were told that she could see almost everything but the truth was that we could see almost nothing. It wasn't worth the admission price..
It might be fun for a young, family with a lot of kids but not an older person who loves trains.

“Marvellous experience for children”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

It is just a marvellous place to visit with children. Beside the very old and very new trains there is a lot to do for children even for the very young. Our toddler of 2 was very happy there climbingf and seeing all the trains and making the "Vuurproef (Proof of Fire)". We where there in the "Wintermuseum" weeks and they had an ice skating ring and someone was making ice sculptures. If you want your children to have the complete experience start with taking the train from Utrecht Central Station to the Mqaliebaan Station, which is the Train Museum. This train goes once every hour, so check the schedule ahead.

“Great entertainment”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

Where as the National Rail Museum in York is mainly a collection of engines, rolling stock and railway items, the Utrecht museum is full of entertainment, and great for all the family
