“A ferroequinologist's dreamland”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

It was my second time I had visited the museum and it was better than the first. There is something there for everyone, train lovers or not and the organisers of the museum do their best to make the exhibits as interesting as possible. The present theme was the function of railways during wartime with exhibits being borrowed from other countries. I would recommend a visit to this museum for all age groups. The adult entrance fee of €16 would appear to be a little on the high side but after you have completed your visit you can see that it was well worth the money.

In order to reach the museum you can take the hourly shuttle train from Utrecht Centraal Station to Utrecht Maliebaan (the journey time is 19 minutes) or you can enjoy an easy walk through the wonderful City of Utrecht which has graciously provided direction signs to the museum for pedestrians.

“Very interesting and surprising museum”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

We just more or less wandered in this museum, and we were very positively surprised. The museum is enormous, and the collection of trains from all the ages is vast.

The war time trains is particularly interesting, seeing tanks on trains, armoured trains, etc

The museum is an actual train station, stil in use, but the actual museum is behind it. Lots of children activities to do.

When leaving, go to the restaurant of the station and have some of the fantastic apple pie...

“Perfect day out in Utrecht”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

This is a great day out for both adults and children. There's much to see and do and very often they offer special activities like a christmas winter station, a model train exhibition etc. The museum is not very cheap, entrance is like €15, but it's well worth the money, especially when travelling with children. If you're planning to visit more museums in the Netherlands consider to buy a 'museum jaarkaart' which will cost you around 45€ but gives you unlimited access to all museums in the Netherlands (also the Rijksmuseum etc).

“RAILWAY HISTORY FOR OLD AND YOUNG”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

Wonderful day out and I mean a day. Great display of locomotives and rolling stock plus some wonderful displays. Lots to do for adults and children alike. On certain days (check the museum website) you can take a trip on an old EMU preserved and in fantastic condition direct from the museums own station. You can travel on a special service from Utrecht Centrall direct to the station which is part of on most days too. Great coffee shop and don't miss a visit to the Loo's as it is well worth it.
