“Always nice to visit this museum in a historic building in the centre of Utrecht”

Whatever there is on display in this museum it is always nice to visit it. All exhibitions are related to religion, in every form, throughout the ages. There is a more or less permanent exhibition on religion and regularly changing exhibitions on various subjects. It will give you lots of background information on Christian traditions in The Netherlands through the ages.

A special section is dedicated to beautiful gold and silver artefacts from churches.

The museum is housed in an old, well renovated, medieval cloister in the centre of Utrecht. Everything is very quiet and there is a nice restaurant on the ground floor.

Free access to visit the cathedral. Cost to visit the accompanying museum with collection of religious art & whatnot. I like churches for the architecture and the feeling they evoke from inside, not so much for the iconography, so we skipped the museum and walked on to the Domkerk instead.

Too much religious stuff and no English labelling so did not really get the relevance of some of the things.

Catherine's Convent is a very special museum featuring the history of religion in the Netherlands. Visiting is worthwhile not only for the nice surrounding but also since the expositions are beautiful, giving a lot of information and showing the variety of Dutch religious history.

The museum was a collection of religious art but as a whole not so fascinating as i hoped it to be. If you are interested in the history of the Hetherlands it doesnt show you a gideline for example how the different religions developed in the Netherlands and how they influenced the growth of a nation. Museum Catharijneconvent doesn't weigh up to the more interesting museums in Amsterdam for example the Van Gogh museum or the Hermitage, besides the City of Amsterdam is much more inviting than Utrecht.
