I like this cinema a lot, because the movies are always high quality and the atmosphere is nice. In addition, a narrator ('explicateur') provides the audience with some background information (in Dutch) just before the start of the movie. The movies are run without a break. The small bar is nice and cosy. The large bar is nice too, but sometimes too crowded. The restaurant is ok, but nothing extraordinary. If you indicate that you are going to see a movie, this will be taken into account with the planning of your dinner.

One of my favourite hangout spots in Utrecht, the Louis Hartlooper Complex (LHC) is located at the Ledig Erf, a square surrounded by great cafes next to the canal (this place booms during the summer).

The LHC is an excellent place to watch an arthouse film, eat something or even have a drink. If you are into your artistic films, then this is the place to be. What the LCH is known for is having someone from the cinema give the audience a brief introduction into the film they will be watching. Usually, it is a synopsis, history, the directors vision for the movie and other facts.
There are two main dining areas and one of these is located under a sort of glass house, which really adds to the atmosphere. There is also the option to eat outside too. It has a very 1950’s feel to it with the furniture and there are loads of old cinema projectors, equipment and posters dotted around with information on the place.

Food wise, it is very affordable and there is a good selection of Belgium beers to quench your thirst.

I can highly recommend coming here on a Sunday afternoon to relax and grab a bite to eat.

I like the area where the LHC is located. Good movies, nice food and on a good weather very good atmosphere on the terraces. It has an artistic feeling for some reason.

This former police station transformed into a small arthouse movie theatre is a gem. Located at the lively Ledig Erf with its crowded terrasses it's nice place to have a small diner before and drinks after the movies which are always introduced by an explicateur.
