I should have been reviewing the NH Hotel in Amersfoort, however as they were overbooked, they had moved me to the Berghotel.
Receptionist was very friendly, and sorted out my room for me - 4th floor. There is only one lift, which is slow, and has no button to close the doors and speed it up. The stairwell is enough to give you vertigo.
My room is best described as 50 shades of grey. Grey walls, grey laminated floor, grey tiles in the bathroom. Also a silvery grey sofa - cant wait to see that one needing cleaning. The rug beneath the bed goes up behind on the wall - an interesting concept on headboards. This was grey and purple. Curtains - pink!
Bathroom - more grey - wet room style shower, grey radiator. Clean white towels, and the most peculiar sink I ever saw - a triangular bowl with a slit - no idea how a gent would be able to plug this up and shave. Nice amenities, plus flannel - but no shower cap.
Two single beds with single duvets pushed together - why?
This is supposed to be a 4 star hotel - but no coffee/tea makings, and no minibar. Didn't look for room service.
I had dinner in the bar - round tables with chairs that are too low, and nowhere to put your feet. Food was good though, service friendly, if not the fastest. If you order the burger, make sure you specify how you want it cooked, as default is mooing.
After dinner, the fun begins - my room key doesnt work. Back down to reception - new key. Back up in the lift - doesnt work. Repeat - only this time I use the stairs. Doesnt work. Repeat...doesnt work. Eventually the duty manager lets me in with the master key.
Can't speak for breakfast. Not sure if I'll go back here - rooms are too depressing.
