“Great restaurant, good hotel, lovely staff and owners”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

My wife and I stayed here for the second time. This time with our daughters and friends. Besides their great kitchen, Lindenhof also has two excellent apartments. The food was great. We had the 4 course menu, with accompanying wines. Just great. The girls (4, aged between 9 and 13) had two courses from the chef's menu. After diner they were invited to make their own dessert in the kitchen. They loved it. We never felt so welcome in a two star restaurant. We had a great night sleep in the hotel rooms. Only the shower of room 7 sometime switches from warm to cold. The next morning we had the most lovely breakfast you can imagine. Also now the girls were allowed in the kitchen and helped and could ask the staff anything they wanted to know about cooking. They all want to become a cook now. At noon the cooks and the girls played football in the garden. Afterwards Martin, the chef and owner, took us for an afternoon sail through the canals of Giethoorn in their own boat. At 2 pm we said good bey to Martin, Marjan and their staff. Enriched with a lovely experience. We'll surely be back and can recommend this restaurant and hotel to anyone, especial to those with children.

“A class of its own”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

We stayed at the Lindenhof in 2007 and were curious if Martin, the chef, had maintained his high calibre and energy to make the experience of an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast in unforgettable one. And just so! The apartment is very we designed and has a very welcoming feel to it. We were directly at ease, inserted our iPhone and enjoyed B&O quality sipping a delicious Burgundy white. Dinner is not a meal but an on-going love story between the men in the kitchen, the woman in the service, the food and the wines. We opted for the tasting menu and were flabbergasted by the quality, the taste and the impeccable design of the food on our plates. The female sommelier knew her wines and guided us through some new adventures from Germany and South Africa. After such a meal and a good nights' sleep breakfast was more or less a continuation of dinner: about 8 different small breakfast bites all excellent and together a feast for the eye and the palette. Altogether an unforgettable experience and we will not wait another 6 years for the next meal. A third Michelin star is well deserved here!

“Amazing evening and breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

We had an excellent evening with 7 friends/business partners and a 12 course dinner. Service is as it should be, knowledgeable friendly and hardly noticeable.
The next morning we enjoyed a 5 course breakfast, with champagne of course!
Unfortunately the have limited sleeping capabilities.

“Formal & a bit stiff with high quality food. Perhaps overpriced?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2013

We went here for a Sunday lunch for our 5 year anniversary. Although the quaint little village of Giethoorn is noted as being "car free," you can take your car here without a problem.

All in all, we enjoyed the experience. However, we're on the fence as to whether we'll go back or not.

I found the food to be of very high quality, but other than the amuse bouche and soup, tastes didn't rock our world. Most of the dishes had an element of surprise to them and were prepared quite intricately, which is what you'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber. However, I didn't much care for the whiskey beef, which sounded delicious but tasted way too bitter.

The service was quite good. Waitstaff were polite and helpful, but rather formal. My one element of disappointment was that they charged us for a series of courses that we didn't eat. I think they could have handled this much more fairly. Upon arrival, my partner started to feel sick. We told them just after the amuse bouche to only serve the full set of courses to 1 of us. They weren't able to stop the first course, which was OK. I ate the fish dish for both of us so that it wouldn't go to waste.

I fully expected to pay for this first course for my partner. However, when we received the bill, we noticed that we were charged full price for both meals. After some discussion, they took a very small, token amount off the price for the 2nd person, but this was very unsatisfactory since only 1 of us ate all of the 5 courses.

Giethoorn is a very quaint little village. With the boats and canals, I'd suggest going there in the summer so you can take advantage of both the restaurant and a boat trip through the area.

Prices are quite high unless you're able to find a special deal. Once a year, the website diningcity.com has a "Dining with the Stars" event, so you can usually get a great price at that time.

“My favourite restaurant by far”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2012 via mobile

It's always a treat to eat here - especially during the summer time in their lovely garden. However, during the winter it is just as cosy. The food is exquisite, just like their service. Already looking forward to our next visit of this beautiful restaurant.
