Owner description: In the Zaans Museum & Verkade Experience you will always find something exciting to do. Visit our chocolate and biscuit factory and discover how Verkade biscuits and chocolate were made and admire our magnificent collection of packagings, graphic designs, paintings, photographs, films, Zaans painted furniture and utensils. On a regular base we organize activities for the whole family. Lectures, films, workshops and tasty activities like building cookie-factories using Verkade biscuit, make edible postcards, or get started with real Verkade chocolate!Besides the activity program we offer several investigative routes, you can design a wrapper for a chocolate bar, and of course taste the different Verkade Cookies . With the serious games you can test whether you 're just as agile as a Verkademeisje, or that you still have more talent for baking cookies .With the serious games on the factory square you become an engineer, planner, operator, technician or designer and will be introduced to the variety of technical occupations in the food sector.

“A nice museum”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

When you are there, you must visit it. It gives you a nice vieuw how everything was in the 1920's. For the museum you have to pay a fee.

“Memories and recognition”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

The Zaans Museum and the Verkade Paviljoen are located in two modern buildings next to the "Zaansche Schans". Entrance is always in the Zaans Museum, where the entrance fee is paid. The Verkade Paviljoen is reached by an air bridge between the two buildings. We visited the Verkade Paviljoen first. This exhibition of the history of one of the great Dutch brands is impressive. Furthermore, as I am an engineer, I hugely enjoyed the exhibition of the ancient production machines from the last century for Verkade biscuits, chocolate bars and Waxine candles. The machines were all running and a simulated production was turned out. For children (and of course adults), a video game was devised, where you could fill virtually a Verkade tin with assorted chocolates and biscuits from a running production line. (Just like the Verkade girls). Points can be earned for speed and loss of product. All virtually on touch screen of course. Furthermore, the history of the Verkade products were exhibited; I discovered many Verkade products from my childhood..... The Zaans museum exhibited how people in the "Zaanstreek worked and lived and the history of well known brands of food products, which originated in the "Zaanstreek". We were impressed by the exhibition of the first "Bruynzeel" kitchen, which was a stunning revisit to our childhood. Dutch culture and Dutch heritage is the red thread in the exhibition in the Zaans museum. Sadly I must say, that these proud parts of life have been subject to a knockout-sale in the past decades. All well-known signature brand from the "Zaanstreek" have vanished or are a brand of an foreign conglomerate. Even the flagship brand Verkade is now a brand of "United Biscuits". I thing we must be glad that we can still buy Verkade biscuits and that these products are not yet renamed to UB biscuits. If you are not from The Netherlands, this museum gives you an insight to Dutch life and Dutch heritage. For Dutch visitors, the exhibition awakes memories and recognition.

“Neighbour of 'De Zaanse Schans"”
Reviewed September 8, 2012

The Zaans Museum and Verkade paviljoen are related to De Zaanse Schans. This place gifs you a vieuw on the 17e centry with his mills and his wooden green houses. We did visit this area and the buildings with a gide, Olina. Very good. You can find her on: Olina.kingma@upcmail.nl

“Pick up the Zaanse Schans card here before seeing everything else”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

Great little museum. Verkade factory superb, kid friendly with great exhibits and free samples of biscuits.

Buy the Zaanse Schans card here before visiting the rest of the area - discounts on food, free entry to some of the other attractions in the traditional dutch village.

If you're visiting Amsterdam you must come here.

Suggest take 391 bus from Amsterdam Centraal - takes you straight to their door in 30mins and runs every 30 mins

“Interesting”
Reviewed July 19, 2012

The Zaans Museum was very interesting, there's more to be said about that area than I thought. the Verkade one is great for children and adults alike, a bit of history, a bit of mechanics, a bit of fun. It makes you hungry! But don't worry, they're selling chocolate and cookies right there!
