A very nice self-paced walking tour museum style shops and windmills. We didn't want to leave Holland without getting near a windmill, and this was a great place to do it. Very nice photo opportunities, and we loved the live demonstration of wooden shoe making.

We enjoyed the train ride and pleasant walk to the Windmills, about 20minute walk from the train depot. Very informative tour of the windmills.

This is amazing way to see most Dutch attractions in one place. Here are old windmills, clogs factory and museum, cheese shop, souvenir shop with unique Dutch jewelry etc. Ask to show you diamond with 221 facets (instead of traditional 57) in the jewelry shop – it is something! Choose from wide variety of fresh Dutch cheeses for reasonable prices. Make photos of outstanding traditional windmills. Look at famous clogs manufacture or wander between nice pleasant houses and gardens. It is touristy, yes, but ideal place for those who have not much time and want all in one place. Entrance to this attraction is free of charge. At the exit you may buy a souvenir calendar with your own photo on it. The price is 10 euro.

If you are visiting this area for a short time and want a good feel for everything Dutch, then a trip to Zaanse Schans is very worthwhile. They have several working windmills which cost an extra few Euro's to go in and explore. There is a Gouda cheese shop, Delft pottery and a clogg shop with demonstrations. we have been several times with Friends over the last 5 yrs and have noticed that is has become more commercialised over this time. The prices in the shops are pretty steep though and much of the same in each shop. There are some pretty cafe's near the entrance.
