10 minute walk from railway station .beautiful kept prosperous village.Walk over modern bridge to get to zaanse Schans.Various workshops of interest I personally liked the clog making free entry workshop. Also you enter some of the windmills at a cost of 3.50 euro for adults. There are many exhibits and boat rides are available too.Interesting place worth a day visit.

“Great history”

Great history, easy to get to but lots of people as you would expect. Go by bike and look at the windmills furthest from the entrance!

“Excellent Visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2014

I could not believe that this attraction was free to enter and walk around although there are charges to enter the windmills. The setting is brilliant with 6 or 7 windmills in close proximity added to the lovely village to walk around.Great views whereever you wander and interesting attractions dotted around the area. A nice selection of 'touristy' type shops also around especially the clog maker shop with museum pieces and displays. Well worth going out of your way to see this attraction if you are interested in the culture and want to see windmills in a nice setting. Its a pity all the locals do not wear traditional dress around the site though.

“Holland in a nutshell”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2014

We spent a great day at Zaanse Schans with the kids during our recent visit to Amsterdam.
The park, although touristy, really represents Holland in a nutshell and is great to show kids what Holland is famous for.
If you have a car, it is very easy to get to and entrance is free, although you are charged a small fee for visiting the windmills inside.
Animal loving kids will love to picnic with chickens around them and we found a few ducklings in the waterways.
A great place to buy a few souvenirs too.

“vivid demonstration of wind power”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2014

We visited this attraction with two delightful Dutch friends on a windy, cold day. The whole area is a great display of historic Holland. The windmills are huge and impressive, the buildings surrounding them are beautifully restored and there's water and waterways everywhere. For me the highlights were the clog-making demo (free) and seeing one of the mills in massive, groaning, shaking action (3eu's).
The inventiveness, the neatness and business acumen of these people long ago is vividly on display. Mind you, its pretty-well on display today as well!! Lots of gigantic tourist busses, 50cents for a pee...unless you buy one of the over-priced, poorly prepared pancakes/coffees at one of the restaurants (with lots of signs saying 'only customers can pee here!') and the continual entry price at each of the windmills, instead of a single price to visit them all
That said, its certainly worth a visit for even the most jaded tourist!
