“Good location, but breakfast served too late on weekends”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

Stayed here for the second time for 3 nights. It is well located for the centre of Haarlem but a long way from the train station, a good 15 - 20 minute walk. Far better to take a cab. It is close to several restaurants and easy walking distance to the Teyler and Frans Hals Museums, both excellent.

The rooms are small and quiet and the wifi is complimentary and reasonable. The breakfast is excellent although a little pricey. The only problem is that breakfast is not served until 9am on the weekend and this was far too late for us. I would have given it 5 had it not been for this.

Room Tip: All rooms are double glazed and quiet. I like the top floor rooms the best.

Spotlessly clean, felt like I was the first person that ever used the bathroom. Very comfortable, no complaints other than it being a little expensive. The 'deluxe' name for the room is a bit over the top as its pretty standard the same as you would find in any other hotel but having said that I couldn't fault the room itself. Would definitely stay there again, location perfect for sightseeing and 10 minute walk from haarlem train station.

Stayed for 5 days in May. Good location, close to city center. Walked to everything. Old, refurbished building with great gothic feel. Staff was very attentive, and room was nice. I would recommend this hotel.

The hotel is very good situated in the centre of Haarlem and just beside the parking "Appelaar". As the city of Haarlem is not very carfriendly and a lot of streets are only for pedestrians or bicycles you best set your GPS at Spaarne 36, Haarlem which will lead you directly to the parking.

The parking is a public parking and parkings in Netherlands are not cheap. But the Hotel has the advantage that you can visit the whole city by foot.
The room is a modern room, but in our room (204) the airconditioning was a bit noisy. The room has all the comfort and free wireless internet. The beds are a bit soft and it are 2 one-personbeds which are tending to drift apart a bit.
staff is very friendly.
Breakfast is not cheap (18,50 EUR) and we had the experience staff dit not always are aware of the shortage of some elements. But if you make them aware of it they immediately respond. However as the breakfast room is not so big, you should expect staff to be aware of these things. Breakfast is good (eggs, bacon, sausages), different king of bread, ham, cheese, jam,... . Coffee is very good, but as the machine also molds the beans it can take some time. When we were there everything worked fine, but the affluence was not very great.
No belgian TV.

There are free drinkwater-dispensers and you can find also green apples on each stage

Room Tip: Our room was on the streetside and in front of an office.

Location alone is magnificent. Hotel is very comfortable, clean, and rooms are huge for European standards, especially in the Netherlands. The staff stopped at nothing to make my stay a very pleasant one. Tons of restaurants and shops around, and you can cover the entire city on foot from where you are staying. definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a comfortable and convenient stay in the center of the town.

Room Tip: My room was upgraded to a junior suite, but when I saw regular size rooms, they were very spacious a...

We were staying 5 nights at this hotel as we wanted to be somewhere convenient to tour the rest of the Netherlands (Alkmaar, Delft, Amsterdam). Upon check-in, Fanny was most accommodating in trying to give us a quiet, corner room.

Although Haarlem is convenient to the places we wanted to visit outside this town, the hotel itself is a good 15-minute walk to the train & bus station. The taxi fare is about 8-10 Euros if you do not feel like walking in the cold & rain. The hotel however is centrally located, near the square, and close to many bars, cafes & restaurants.

The bedroom was definitely not luxurious and I would describe it as standard business design. Beds were a bit soft and perhaps the mattresses need to be changed soon. There was free wi-fi. My husband did not have problems logging in with his laptop but I could not access the internet on my I-pad throughout the 5 nights.

We had a shower stall, separate from the tub, which we liked. However, it would be preferable to replace the shower curtain with a proper glass door as the shower curtain tends to blow inside the stall whenever one stands under the shower. Also, a better ventilation system would help to air the bathroom.

In general, the staff were helpful with information on sights & eating places. Laura was very prompt in answering my email queries during the booking process.

My mother and I recently stayed at this lovely hotel in Haarlem and thoroughly enjoyed it here. We were given a room on the back side of the hotel that had two french type doors that opened up overlooking a charming narrow street. There was no real balcony to step out onto, but you could lean over the rail and peek out to see what was happening on the street below. I loved being able to hear the bells of the beautiful church just a block away.

The room was standard size for Europe, very clean and well kept. Bathroom was well maintained and had a hairdryer that was decent. The hotel always seemed quiet, which was nice for sleeping or an afternoon rest after walking all day. Front desk staff was courteous as well, we didn't use the breakfast room but did have a drink in the bar area and found it sufficient if not a little bit dull. But nice if you wanted to go down and have a drink and read a book or some quiet activity.

The hotel website says to follow the signs for the Teylers museum if you are walking from the train station but we found this route to be a little complicated so we later re-traced our steps and found a more direct route. When coming out of the train station take either of the two main roads heading directly in front of you and walk towards the grote market and around the back of the church. You should find Damstraat pretty easily this way, much larger sidewalk space when carting luggage. It's about a 15 minute walk from the train station.

Haarlem is a lovely walking town with lots of restaurant choices and very friendly people. Don't speak dutch? No worries, everyone speaks perfect English here. Try the Pasta Mama next door to the hotel for decent italian food. Would we stay here again? Most definitely!
