My husband and I stayed here for one night. The hotel was immaculate and our room was comfortable and modern. The staff here were all helpful and efficient. In the morning we were waiting for our taxi outside and it was a few minutes late. When we went to check on it the woman at the desk had already called the driver to see where he was. He was there within the minute. The hotel is within walking distance to the main square and the canal which is lovely to walk along. We took a delightful tour along with another couple of the restored windmill, De Adriaan - our guide was very informative and knew a lot about the history of Haarlem. The hotel's restaurant serves only breakfast, but the Grand Cafe Nobel next door is excellent and they do provide the room service for the hotel if you prefer staying in.

The Frans Hals is very new feeling, yet has an old world charm. It has all the modern conveniences like WIFI and multiple guest services, but doesn’t have a full time restaurant.... has sort of a part time one for guests only.... buffet breakfast (full) etc. That is absolutely no problem, however. The Centrum of Haarlem has many (many) great places to eat and socialize..... The Centrum is really charming and has great shopping and is all cobblestoned... with walking only in about a mile square!
Go to this town and stay at the Frans Hals.

I've stayed there 3 separate times, and going again in a week.

Clean, Classy, Convenient

PS parking garage is directly under the hotel...

All round good hotel, surrounded by some very good restaurants and in a great location for commuting into Amsterdam. The hotel staff were very friendly and interesting to chat to and helped us with getting converters.

The underground public car park is literally right next door to the hotel and we were spoilt for choice for restaurants and cafe's nearby. I really recommend the big glass fronted cafe with rows of chairs out on the main square!

Overall my new favorite hotel for Amsterdam and the Netherlands.

When we arrived in Amsterdam on a Dutch holiday weekend we had no idea how difficult it would be to find accommodation. Luckily someone convinced us that rather than torture ourselves trying to find an Amsterdam hotel, we should try Haarlem. He was right, we loved Haarlem and I still want to find that man and hug him. Amrath Grand was a very pleasant surprise. We had a clean modern room with spacious bath and comfy bed and linens and the European standard of an electric kettle with coffee, tea and cocoa. We did not choose the hotel breakfast, instead opting to eat at the open market in the square just outside the hotel entrance-walking while enjoying coffee from our room and pastry and fruit from vendors. We also had two lovely meals at the large outdoor cafe on the square directly across form the hotel entrance.
I am not including photos because mine are basically the same as others have posted.

Room Tip: we booked 45 minutes prior to arrival and had few options but wound up with a great room.

Quite a few trips here, the most recent last night. Thursday, being late night shopping in Haarlem, gives the place a great feel.

The location is perfect.

The hotel has a really imposing glass ceiling at the top of the 4 storey-high sweeping staircase. I stayed last night on the 3rd floor. Previously, I've stayed on the 2nd floor and also been given a bump up to a penthouse suite on the 4th floor.

Room was great - nice comfy bed, tea/coffeemaking, great shower.

The hotel doesn't serve food often in the evenings (if ever?), but the wide choice of restaurants outside the door means that this isn't an issue.

Breakfast, at €18, is a little pricey ,there are plenty of other options within walking distance.

Hotel is very central, right on the canal and just off the main square, a 5 minute walk from the bus station (no 300 direct from the airport).
Rooms are spacious, beds very comfortable and staff really nice, and helpful (from extra pillows, to supplying toiletries we had forgotten, to umbrellas and directions)
great value (internet rate)
didnt have breakfast in the hotel, went out, as lots of choice, and lower cost.
defintely will stay again and recommend for short breaks.

Room Tip: tell them your requirements in advance - double bed, view etc

I spent a Sunday in Haarlem to deal with jet lag in a quiet place rather than Amsterdam. It was picturesque but very quiet so I got a lot of sleep but did nothing except walk around the town. I did find a wonderful Indonesian restaurant for dinner (De Lachende Javaan) which was welcome since I was visiting Amsterdam during the e coli scare and wasn't eating fresh vegetables.

To be honest, writing a month later I can't remember much about the hotel but wanted to post my photos which show it was nicely appointed with
