We were in Haarlem with friends earlier this year arriving by train on a freezing cold day. After walking the short distance from the warm train, we headed for the nearest cafe. It looked very unpromising from outside, but needs must. However once inside we discovered a charming cafe with a massive collection of old metallic advertising signs and other memorabilia. Yesterday we were back in Haarlem after a cycle trip in the sunshine with the same friends. Having given back our rented bikes at the station, we looked around for a place to eat dinner. We recognised our old friend and went in to eat. This is not a gourmet restaurant with posh overtones, but the food yesterday was very good. The service was also speedy and friendly.
