“Beautiful church and famous organ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Split your attention span between your feet and above your head, because those two places are the most attractive ones... below your feet lie a lot of (famous) dead people and the ceiling is ofcourse a great signature. If you are on time, try to get tickets for a concert in the chruch with its famous organ, you will remember it!

“A Fine Old Church”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

We actually only went into the Church because we were waiting for the next tour at the Corrie ten Boom Museum nearby. A fine old Church building, really incredibly large for a town the size of Haarlem. Has a huge pipe organ which was once played by Mozart. The floor appears to be composed of massive stones which serve as the covers for some kind of crypts underneath.

“Large Church in Main Square”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

There are Organ recitals held inside the church there are notices on the dates on a notice board at the entrance door which is at the side. There are interesting places to eat surrounding the church and there is a weekly market held in the square

“Beautiful architecture, organ and history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Good entrance to the St Barvo Church, many corners with character and frequent music concerts - we attended 2 in 2 days. Great character inside and outside.

“Sublime”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

I had planned to take in one of the weekly organ concerts here, and what with one thing or another, we didn't make it to Haarlem from Amsterdam on the right night (I think it's Tuesdays at 8:15pm).

I was, however, pleasantly surprised to have the organ going full-tilt when I arrived the next day during the early afternoon. The organist was practicing bits and pieces of various Bach compositions, and the organ is indeed spectacular, both in sight and sound. Mozart and Handel played here, so, well, there you go.

The rest of the cathedral is beautiful with lots of great things to see... the carvings on the choir in particular are really beautiful.

Rick Steves has a nice little walk-through of the other things to see in the church in his Amsterdam, Brussels and Bruges book.

Even if you don't luck out and hear the organ being played, this is a must-visit attraction.
