Owner description: Anyone who opens the museum's heavy door on the bank of the River Spaarne sees at a glance what it is that inspires such enthusiasm. The museum breathes the atmosphere of the 18th and 19th centuries - the Age of the Enlightenment - when people were busily gathering knowledge about the world. Teylers Museum is a world in itself, one that you will never forget. Teylers Museum is the best-preserved 18th-century public knowledge institution for the arts and sciences in the world. It has been open to the public since 1784, welcoming all those who are eager to look at paintings and drawings by the Old Masters, magnificent minerals, ingenious scientific instruments, precious books, and centuries-old fossils. The museum's interior alone, with the monumental Oval Room as pièce de resistance, is a truly remarkable attraction. It is the only authentic 18th-century museum interior in the world.

“Good and educational musé”
Reviewed July 27, 2014

Both the scientific part of the display and the art-exhibit was very good, with the most weight on the latter. This makes Teylers Museum a must see when in Haarlem!

“visit from hungary”
Reviewed July 11, 2014

usual ordinary museum, with different objects to see. oldest in the netherlands. nice trying to think with our grand-grand-grand-grand-grandmother's mind, what she could see and what she could expect from a museum at that time :-).
children's part is good (but we did not bring them there). staff friendly and helpful. if you are not a museum maniac foreign, but would like to see one, this is a good choice.

“Surprise”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

A little gem! Surprised us with such a different collection of fossils and "older"technological machines. But also the paintings and drawings of so many famous painters (Michaelangelo, Rembrandt and many many more) was a huge surprise.
Worth a visit for a early morning or rainy afternoon and dont hesitate to open the books with drawings, they are there for you to have a look at.

“Much of interest”
Reviewed June 28, 2014

This beautiful and impressive building overlooking the River Spaarne was the first museum opened to the public in the Netherlands. It has an impressive collection of fossils, rocks and minerals, historic scientific equipment, and artwork by Dutch painters such as Mesdag and Breitner. There is an audioguide included in the entry fee, and this gives plenty of information on the museum's exhibits. There is also a shop and restaurant.
