We'd been traveling for a while in Holland and wanted a change from traditional or more heavy meals. We found Jetties a welcome change. We went there 3 times while staying in Haarlem. You order at the counter from posted menu boards. One night I had Thai curry with beef, cilantro and rice. Delicious. My husband had the caprese sandwich, fries and the apple pie and enjoyed these as well. When we went for lunch, we had the pumpkin soup, small salad that came with a sliced hard boiled egg and cappuccino. All good. On our next visit, I had the veggie burger and fries, lemon cake and honey bush tea. My husband had the pumpkin soup and carrot cake. I thought the large veggie burger, made with chick peas and bulgar, was exceptionally tasty with a good bun. The menu board indicates that the food items are generally organic or local fare. The staff was helpful. Once you placed your order, you waited to see when your number was posted at the kitchen to pick up your order.

Jetties is the place to go for a quick, inexpensive meal. The formula is: (i) you choose one or more dishes from the menu (which includes a range of burgers and some vegetarian options); (ii) you order and pay at the cashier's, where you are given a number; (iii) you wait till everything is ready, collect your order and sit down at your table. This may sound a bit canteen-like, but the restaurant, which also sells some pre-packaged goodies and souvenirs, has a good atmosphere. The design is basic, bright, and "natural." It is probably also a good restaurant to take children. This is not a place to spend hours (you have to order before 8 o' clock anyway, and the place closes at 8.30), but it is a lot more attractive to eat here than sitting down at your average take-away-with-a-few-tables, and at a hardly higher price.

The food is fresh, enjoyable and nicely priced (on average €10 for a main course). Jetties is located at a few minutes walking from Haarlem Central station and close to the city centre, and would also be good for a coffee or tea break, or a late-afternoon drink on the outdoor pavement terrace. If you are a burger fan and have sampled enough Jetties burgers, you will eventually get one for free.
