“Great base for business”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

I have only stayed here on business. This is a great hotel to relax after a day in work. The room is very comfortable, with a good range of TV channels (including BBC1, BBC2, ITV). Rooms are very traditional in style, so homely. The bar is a great place to enjoy a drink and a meal. If you are working away and there is a big match on there is a chance that the bar will be showing it. There is also a good restaurant. Both are very friendly and comfortable even when you are eating on your own. All the staff are very friendly. Only downside is that is is not in the city centre itself, a short 10 minute walk brings you into the gorgeous town of Haarlem.

Went in this hotel for a one night stay for business but my room immediately seemed to me very comfortable with LCD tv.. A big double bed, modern bath and a big desk. Last but not least an efficient wifi free connection. Very good experience!

Myself and my sister stayed in this hotel in september 2012.
Haarlem is a beautiful place and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
The hotel staff were pleasant and we had a very relaxing stay.
The hotel was clean and the rooms were a nice size.
The bathroom had recently been modernised in our room which was nice!
The shopping and restaurants/Bars in Haarlem are literally a 5 minute walk away from hotel (if even that).
If you are coming to visit Amsterdam however - this hotel is a train journey away albeit not a long one but a trip nonetheless.
The trains stop running at around 1am and if you are on a night out in Amsterdam city and miss the train a cab back to Haarlem will cost you around 50-60 Euros so keep an eye on the time.
The trains are very easy to use however and are always on time and cheap!

Room Tip: Ask for one with a refurbished bathroom

We stayed here for 3 nights prior to a cruise in Aug. 2012. While we had quite a hike to the train, staying in Haarlem rather than Amsterdam was perfect and the trains to other cities easy to maneuver. The hotel was very comfortable, in a peaceful area close to the center of Haarlem and restaurants, and the breakfast included was excellent. The hotel was a added plus to the quiet of Haalem.

We got a 3 for 2 deal on this place in off season. It looked a bit bland on the web, but I found the admittedly "corporate" feel to the place was less important than the really pleasant staff and the excellent breakfast. We noticed on Friday morning that there was a grab-a-croissant-and-juice stand for those exiting before the breakfast started at 8 am. Nice touch.
There's a Whisky Bar too, but I'm from Scotland and Dutch prices for single malts are even higher than our own!
The room was a little warm and short of opening the window, there wasn't any way to control that that we found. It seems to have underfloor heating, which is nice, but the girl on the desk was unaware of such, so who knows how the place was heated.
The room was spotlessly clean and everything worked. Free Wifi was nice.
The hotel is about a quarter mile south of the southern edge of the old town of Haarlem. So the town centre is about 10 mins walk to the north. 20 mins will bring you to Haarlem Central station, which is on the northern extremis of the town. The good bus system was appreciated. The line 140 stops 2 mins from the hotel and another line stops outside.
We got ourselves from hotel to Schipol Airport by bus in 40 mins using a "buzzer" all day ticket for two for 13.50 Euro. The Dutch were very helpful in getting us around the public transport system, which is relevant to the hotel in that it influences were one wants to stay. If we went to Haarlem again, I'd consider returning to the Carlton Square.

Room Tip: We were on the street side. The view is mostly of a park and an old mansion, so quite pleasant. Ev...

I thought the look of the hotel from the outside was kind of boring, but the interior was quite cozy. Nice and helpfull staff, very big shower. The bed was smallish. Breakfast was huge! Good location; you can walk to the city centre.
Everything very tidy.

Almost a perfect stay.

Only difficulty was the parking. Email sent before we came stayed:

"Parking is available in the public garage 'Houtplein', situated next to the hotel. Special parking tickets are available at the office of the garage."

When we arrived there were no special parking tickets available. Indeed receptionist said there was no relationship between hotel and garage. So we ended up paying full rate. Disappointing
