Me and my wife visited your using a Group on offer. We ate a 4 course menu for 55 Euro's all together. (1 glass of win, 1 bottle of sparkling water and 1 espresso).

All the dishes were very well made. There was such a nice balance in the ingredients. The wine they served accompanied the dishes well. Size of dishes was big, but enough for a good taste.

Personnel was kind and professional, though they were a bit understaffed. The environment of the restaurant is the Park. We definitely need to come back to try the atmosphere in the Summer.

This review is a summery of 5 dinners I had in this restaurant. What you can expect here is really friendly service and good knowledge from the staff about the dishes on the menu. The food is International / French and now and then there is some humor in it like a small tube with cola taste on the rim of your plate. Asian tastes are also on the menu.
If you know your wines you can find a bottle on the wine list you like relatively easy but it is not the most accessable list I have seen. Try the dishes who sound unfamiliar and you will not be disappointed, not because of the pure tastes, and not because of the price. A menu is € 30,- and when you choose to be vegetarian you will be spoiled for choice.
This restaurant is perfect for al fresco dining if (of course) the weather is good!

Hout Franzen (as the restaurant is called nowadays) is my favourite in Haarlem. It is located (hence the name) adjacent to the little park-wood De Haarlemmer Hout, a 30 minute walk from the town centre, or a short bus trip from Haarlem Station.

Without being exceptional, Hout's selection of dishes is always good. If you want to splash out, go a la carte and choose the Plateau Franzen starter, an array of small delicacies. If not, opt for a main course only (€20-25) or let yourself be surprised by the €30 three course dinner.

The design is modern without being wilfully hip, and the big window at the front faces the trees of Haarlem's mini-forest. Service is friendly. We often take our guests to Hout Franzen.

In summer you can eat on the outdoor terrace, which is also open during daytime.

Heard some good stories about Hout so we went out for a visit. Reserved before which was recommendable. The restaurant was full. It is a little difficult trying to find a parking place but withing the small streets behind the restaurant it is possible.
The menu looks nice and the wines are good and reasonably priced. The restaurant looks nice. A lot of wood is used which is the translation in English for the name of the restaurant (Hout).
They have tasteful starters but the "plateau Franzen" has a selection of them. It is a large selection so beware if your not having great appetite. The dishes are great, worth a try.
For main courses they have a good selection of fish, some meat and vegetarian. We tried the lobster which was excellent.
For desserts there are a few choices and we tried a couple. All tasted well and were nicely presented and prepared.
The service was great. Informal but stylish with lots of humor.

It is a 20 minute walk from the center of Haarlem and maybe 15 minutes from the Carlton Hotel. My partner requested some changes due to dietary needs and this was easily accommodated. I have eaten here at least 5 times during the last 12 months and the food is always good. The ambiance can be romantic and can be suitable for group events (birthdays, work dinners) by having a separate room (also upstairs). The wine selection is always stellar and the service good. The website is only in Dutch but the waiters can speak English. The location is close to a wooded area, off a main street towards Heemstede and nestled in a residential area. Sitting outside in Summer while enjoying some appetizers, snacks and drinks is also a very relaxing experience at Restaurant Hout. Reservations for dinner is almost always needed - they do get very busy and I am not surprised as they do have a winning recipe and have proven they can maintain the high standards that I have become used to at their establishment.
