I have eaten, drunk and been drunk in Walem over the years! Walem to me is a great cafe/bistro, a mixture of locals and tourists. The food has always been great (plenty of it - portions are not scrimped) whether it be a salad, sandwich or something a little more substantial. The food is cooked in the bar, which adds to the buzz of the place. It doesn't matter whether it is a winter or summer visit, Walem fits the bill. They have an outside seating area next to the canal, and a lovely little garden at the rear of the cafe, which is a little gem in such a space starved city. I have always found the service to be very good and the staff friendly. I love the mint tea, which is just a huge bunch of fresh mint in hot water with honey served on the side ..... what is there not to love about that!
I love popping in for a night cap (Tia Maria on ice) on my way back to the hotel, it may not be busy but the lighting and music is good, which creates a nice atmosphere to end the evening with a friend or cosying up to a loved one before the walk back to bedfordshire.
