We had dinner with some friends here. The place was recommended by a colleague of my wife, and we agree with is recommendation, it is the best restaurant in the center of Amsterdam if you want to eat French food for dinner, and the prices are OK as well.
The location is a bit tricky, the restaurant is hidden behind De Nieuwe Kerk, adjacent to the Dam square, and you walk around the church building thinking is this it when out of the blue a few horeca establishments appear. Cote Ouest is in the middle of them and has a narrow front.
Inside there is a small floor with maybe 16 seats, and upstears there is a bigger seating area where maybe 40 people can sit. All in all it is not to big, and the customers are not treated as numbers.
The staff was very friendly and we got a menu with the dish names in French, and explanations below what it is in Dutch and English. On the menu explanation the staff was excellent in explaining what was there, the explanation made us more hungry then when we came in.
In the menu there are choices of Meat, Fish and vegetarian dishes, so for all there is something, also they have a variable day menu for all these types next to their standard menu. For starters I had the smoked fish (Poissons Fumee) which was good. As main course I had the duck (Confit Canard) and it was the best duck I have ever eaten! We did not take desert as we were full from this. For drinks the service was fine as well, with refill asked if your glass was empty but without pushing.
As conclusion, we will go there again!
