“Unusual place but loved it”

Canal Apartment is one of a kind. If you want something different than a normal hotel room, this is the place for you. It has a lovely eclectic style. Having your own kitchen space was really good as well. Anne is a lovely and welcoming host, any problems and she helped us straight away. I would only say so people know what to expect you need to be comfortable with the person you are staying with as the toilet is in the same room (its blocked off and has a curtain to close it over), the water is pumped so makes a noise when water is draining (was never an issue for us). The location is perfect just far enough that it is quiet, but just a 5 minute walk into Dam Square etc.. and the canal it is located on is beautiful. It has lovely cafes and restaurants a few doors down that we went to, so you have a lot of places to visit very close. All in all we loved it and when we are coming back we will be asking Anne to look after us again.

“Charming canal appartment”

We enjoyed our stay here very much. Cosy, quiet and perfectly placed in walking distance from most popular parts of the city. This is not a place for those expecting the usual as this is a most unusual place. Quirky, quaint and full of character you will be immediately immersed in the spirit of Amsterdam.

“This will be our first choice when we return to Amsterdam”

This room is located in one of the older houses in Amsterdam, close enough to walk to the centre but very quiet at night. It's larger than a standard bedroom, and has a small table and chairs, a large desk, and various other furniture, all made from reclaimed vintage/antique pieces (except the bed which is new and very comfortable). It opens onto the courtyard garden at the back of the house, which you can use if you wish to smoke or just enjoy a drink. On the other side in the middle of the house (beyond your door which you can lock) is a small kitchen area (also the owners work area but she did not use it at all whilst we were there). Here there is a kettle, fridge, microwave and single hot plate, and crockery etc., so you can have a hot drink anytime, make breakfast or even a simple dinner if you don't want to eat out every night (there is a supermarket close by). Beyond this is the common hallway and the front door. The owner lives right upstairs if you have any difficulties during your stay (she speaks excellent English and is very nice).
Some things to note:
-there are several steps and the bath is quite high sided, so this rental may not be suitable for people with mobility difficulties
-the bathroom is built into the room and has a light sliding screen rather than a door, so you need to be comfortable with your fellow traveler
-there is no TV, but there is an iPod dock which took our iPod classic (but who needs a TV in Amsterdam??)
-if you are travelling with a child you will need to watch them in the bathroom, the hot water is VERY hot
-the room is in the half-basement so a little dark later in the day, but the sun comes in in the morning and there are LOADS of beautiful lights
-this is an historic character property, not a bland chain hotel room!
